I'm comparing 3 different versions of "With The Beatles" now - I've started with the song "It Won't Be Long" - I'm using Dr. Ebbetts needledrops here - and here's what I found: Canadian "Beatlemania": Rich, warm, balanced sound Blue Box: Not as good as the Canadian, sounds colder MFSL: Painful, shrill sound, but a much WIDER stereo image Verdict: The Canadian LP wins! It's surprisingly good. As for being less compressed than the others...I don't know, but it doesn't appear so...the waveforms look near identical for all 3 versions. The Canadian certainly has the best tonality of all 3 versions. Is this LP supposed to be a flat dub of the master like "Die Beatles"? I also compared "Please Please Me"...."Die Beatles" sounds best, but the MFSL is much wider. So my question is: Why are the MFSL's so wide? Did they use a stereo widening technique? Or are all the other sources slightly folded in?
