So my CD player has given up the ghost (or else it has got sick of my McCartney splurge) and I have serious withdrawal symptoms. I can't watch TV. I am antsy, agitated, prone to outbursts. I didn't know there was such a thing, but I realize I am addicted to music. I need a fix.

    Help, I need a rock 'n' roll doctor . . . !

Blowing into the CD player with a straw hasn't helped. Made it worse, I fear. Perhaps I can learn to play the spoons.

Once a year I teach at a camp for a week without music. I steall over to my car after lights out to listen, like a kid sneaking puffs on a cigarette.

My computers can play CD's and music files, I have several turntables, several DAP's and my smartphone.

If the day comes that I cannot play any of my music due to hardware, then most likely something very bad has happened.

I have been reduced to Youtube. Evidently I am not as well-prepared as you are!

  11. There's always birdsong, sounds of kids playing, street sounds, there's music everywhere, now you are free to hear it.

Good time to try a guitar. Bet you will be able to knock out a simple song, just plunking around.

I think it brings on the earworms more insistently. You'll start remembering passages from music you know, looped into impossible-to-break brain-fugues, because you don't have the more constant listening pleasure to push them on their way.

    Without music, the heart wants...music.

It can be educational to learn what music your brain craves when you go without it for a while.

Interesting. Anybody ever consider keeping a diary handy, to make note of one's earworms?

You start getting off on commercial jingles like second hand smoke to someone quitting tobacco.
