Anyone from KISS recording outside of KISS, with the exception of Vinnie Vincent.

I suspect his is the largest ratio of band album sales compared to solo album sales. At least of folks who were among the clear leaders of their bands. Meaning I don't count Pete Best.

The first Frehley's Comet album made Top 50 (41 to be specific) and #17 in the Netherlands.

Just saw in a wonderful Vegas record store a didn't-know-it-existed Jimmy Destri of Blondie solo lp from 1981. I think it didn't chart.

Good one...I bet Denny Doherty's solo didn't chart well either.

A Dire Straits obsessed friend had the David Knopfler solo album. And wasn't there a Tom Fogerty album too?

I want to say Scott Stapp but it looks like people actually did buy his 1st solo record.

One of the biggest surprised to me has always been the solo career of Nicole Scherzinger. She was the face of the Pussycat Dolls, the only member who sand lead and the group were a smashing success, but she could never make much out of her solo career.

Plans for another solo effort by her were actually eventually shelved because of lack of interest on the part of the public.

Another recently Solo artist is Camilla Cabello of 5th Harmony, who after scoring a top 5 hit with MGK (#4, Bad Things), seems to be struggling with a solo release as 'Crying In The Club' has failed to even make the top 40 on the Hot 100, and this is despite making it into the top 20 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart.

I could say in her case though that her exit was pre-mature, it's just ironic that her fans upon hearing she had left the group insisted on drawing parallels to artists like Justin Timberlake and Beyonce in particular.

I've got a very good David Knopfler solo myself, but sure I bet it didn't chart well or at all in America at least.

What is best-searchable online source for verifying US Billboard LP charting? Up to top 200 ideally. (or was it singles that went up to 200? haven't looked at Billboard in decades....)

I have that somewhere. It's been ages but I remember it being a passable new wave album with a shaky vocalist.

    Off to YouTube!

I remember a song of his called "Lie For A Lie" with David Gilmour on vocals that was on MTV once or twice in the 80's. I don't know if it charted.

Geri's first album made the US Top 50 and went Gold. In the U.K. she had a string of #1 hits.

Apparently did not chart in the UK, but reached the heights of no. 130 on the Billboard charts in the US

Sadly Susanna Hoffs solo career never truly took off. The same can be said about both ABBA girls and Debby Harry.

Solo vs. post-original band, yes. But Velvet Revolver did pretty well with him. The only true "solo" track of his I remember getting any airplay was from the Great Expectations soundtrack.
Billy Corgan's solo album was pretty terrible.
