Thanks Chemguy. In the U.K he's become a bit of a 'National treasure'. I assumed his global appeal would have naturally dipped since the jam and the style council days but here the last 27 years have been reasonably successful. Even on these forums he seems well respected - so quite surprised to seem him offered up as a failed solo artist. But as you say, some strange suggestions coming through. Good thread though.

Replying to my post! Currently 2 active threads for Paul, so some appeal still out there.

This is my first time hearing this. I'd know those Thicke lyrics anywhere. They aren't bad at all but Wynn doesn't get into it until the end. Also, the chorus melody is cumbersome and the groove doesn't really happen - despite that they spend a minute and a half trying to make it happen.

It's also striking how much like the Tempts' Richard Street he sounds. Wynne's ad-libs are the same kinda thing that Richard would do.

Roland's solo albums didn't do very well either.

John Entwhistle's career was pretty sad by the end. After one club gig in Ottawa, Canada in the 90s, club owner Eugene Haslem gave everyone refunds. And let's just say that's Eugene isn't known for his generosity.

That time Natalie Maines went one way, and Martie and Emily went the other (as the Courtyard Hounds).

Yes, both albums charted (doing especially well on Billboard's Rock charts) - but does anyone remember them now?

  10. I have the CD from '93. It was the country record I was wondering about. I remember it had a release date and was on Amazon. I had it pre-ordered and it just vanished into the ether.

Yep I agree. Philippe Wynne and Richard Street both had rhythmic voices, I think that's why Richard did so well on that Thom Bell Temptations album. For some reason, I'm not crazy about the way Philippe Wynne's first solo album sounds, the work seemed hackneyed compared to what Thom Bell was doing.

And of course this album didn't sell and his solo career was botched.

Scorpions' drummer Herman Rarebell. Don't think albums like "Nip in the Bud" or "Herman Ze German" set anything alight:nauga:

I don't know that he counts. It was recorded in 1992 or something like that but didn't surface for another ten years. Loverboy was no commercial force by 2002 and a solo record by him didn't have a chance either.

Bill Ward.......but popularity doesn't always mean good music. A lot of good music isn't popular either.

Knox. The front man from The Vibrators managed a single release, Plutonium Express, and then he was back with the band.

Amazingly this album got a "Deluxe Edition", with a second CD of Vibrators live material.......

Bono quoted "Je suis un rock star" at a show once, it was funny.

Should be "je suis UNE rock star" by the way.
