In 1960, Tony Williams left his post as lead singer of The Platters to pursue a solo career. Both parties lost all their traction, with Williams never scoring a hit and The Platters mostly vanishing from the charts until a brief mid-60's reappearance.

Christine McVie's early 80s solo lp had at least one hit single "Got a Hold On Me" which sounded like it could have been straight from MIRAGE.

Coincidentally enough, clicking on the link in this Sales post by @Tjazz, I just saw there's a John Illsley record "Long Shadows" for sale.

It's his eighth release outside of Dire Straits....I wasn't aware he recorded solo!

His first solo album - Slaughter On 10th Avenue reached no. 9 in the UK album charts and I remember it being critically well received.
I'm sure I have a copy of it somewhere.

    M. Frog Labat from Todd Rundgren's Utopia. The only interesting part of this collection of beeps and boops is the expensive gatefold with his completely unique full color system of music notation.

The record company lost a LOT of money on this.

Yeah, Easy Lover disqualifies Philip Bailey but the title track to his solo album was the bomb. And I mean that in the good way.

He had a solo album titles Son of Andrew or something. I worked at a record store in the 80's.

I don't think any of the members of the E Street Band who released solo albums, Clarence Clemons, Steven Van Zandt, Danny Federici , Patty Scialfa and recently Roy Bittan & Garry Tallent have shifted many units. Nils Lofgren did of course have a successful solo career before joining the E Streeters

His first 3 solo albums all reached the top 20 in the US and Eat 'em And Smile is a great record!
(it did go downhill from there )
