A few months ago, as a joke for a friend, I put together a CDR entitled "Duds". While going through my files today I got to thinking what forum members consider their least favorite songs by well-known artists, or at the least, recordings that they feel are either totally without merit, produced in a manner unsuitable for the band, inane lyrics, etc.
Here are the songs on "Duds":
Find Someone to Love Three Dog Night
    More to Come Steely Dan
    Couldn't Make Her Stay Foghat
    Pigeon Song America
    Be Mine Tonight Bad Company
    Lovely Meter Steppenwolf
    Need A Lady Doobie Brothers
    It's Just A Thought Creedence
    American Dream John Mellencamp
Follow Your Daughter Home Guess Who
Whole Lotta Lovin' Huey Lewis and the News
Wednesday Week Elvis Costello and the Attractions
    Jack Rabbit Elton John
Gotta Lotta Nerve Hall and Oates
I Don't Have to Sing The Blues Grand Funk Railroad
    Hot Pork Sandwiches Tanita Tikaram
    Mother Police
    King of Comedy REM
    You Wear Those Eyes Cars
    Sedan Delivery Neil Young
    Some People Nazz
    Used to Bad News Boston

What is your most cherished "dud"?

My vote goes to Paul McCartney & Wings "Bip Bop". Honorable mentions to the following Elvis Presley soundtrack duds: "Old MacDonald", "There's No Room To Rhumba In A Sports Car", "Song Of The Shrimp", "Do The Clam", "He's Your Uncle Not Your Dad", "The Bull Fighter Was A Lady", "Queenie Wahine's Papaya", "Dominic" and "Yoga is as Yoga Does".

Paul McCartney's lowest musical moment is trading off with Michael Jackson in The Girl Is Mine.
Never in the annals of recorded music has a great artist sunk so low. ;)

    GuyDon,
How could you not list the following and still have a conscience:
    Hot Dog (Elvis)--my oldest son would DEMAND hearing this over and over if we were cooking weiners on the grill;
    Ito Eats (Elvis)--my ten year old son can't get enough of the "belch" at the end of the song;
Slicin' Sand (Elvis)--my two year old daughter loves to try to "shake it" to the psuedo-twist rhythm.
At this point, my wife usually grabs her car keys and beats a hasty retreat!

But seriously, did you know that Dominic is Elvis' love song to a bull in heat?
GuyDon, you have to give Elvis credit for his ode to his cherished animal. Have the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dylan, or even Warren Zevon ever accomplished this feat? (Don't get me wrong, I love Elvis).

Mine would be Mr. MoonLaaaaaaaaaa (Mr. Moonlight) by The Beatles. It is probably the only track by them where the singing makes me cringe.

Don't forget John & Yok's Two Minutes of Silence, although some say it contains Yoko's best singing!

Have to politely disagree. I think it's a great song.

How could I forget Ito Eats?!?! Besides Dominic, it has to be the absolute nadir of the Presley canon!

    P.S. I love Elvis also.

I'd say that the Grateful Dead's version of the same song ties it and that the Byrds' Mind Gardens probably beats it...

Best guitar solo on a merseybeat-era recording ever!

    2 GREAT tracks.
    A masterpiece.

How about Vanilla Fudge's Beethoven tracks on The Beat Goes On?
Mind Gardens, however, is probably the winner---how It Happens Each Day was left off in favor of this total embarrassment boggles the mind!

Over "Rude Awakening #2"? Or most of Mardi Gras for that matter? Nope.

Actually, I rather like "It's Just A Thought." Nowhere near prime CCR/Fogerty, but nothing really that bad about it.

"I Got The News" brings down what is otherwise a perfect Steely Dan album(Aja).

Most of side 2 of Living In The Material World by George Harrison is pretty preachy for me.

Jeez - I sorta like those. They have that cheesy, creepy, black light psychedelic sound that's akin to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, without having to sit thru a 17 minute opus. I could go with "Voices In Time" from the same lp as being one of the "worst".

Obviously everyone's entitled to their opinion, but here are some tracks that I always skip:

Fleetwood Mac: Welcome To The Room Sara
    Hall & Oates: Adult Education
    Culture Club: War Song
    McCartney: My Love
    Cyndi Lauper: What's Going On
    Rod Stewart: Baby Jane
    Michael Jackson: Dirty Diana
Starship: It's Not Over Till It's Over
Johnny Cash: It Ain't Me Babe

    Worst ever...

"Til There Was You" and "My Love" are
    fine McCartney vocal performances.
"Mr. Moonlight" rules! What a great
    and unexpected cover version. As
I always say, the WORST Beatles 45
ever is "Eight Days A Week" which
is disappointing on all levels: vocals,
    arrangement, songwriting, performance,
    even engineering (I hate fade-ups).
There are a few weak lp cuts here and there,
but EDAW is a drag every time I've heard
    it since '65...

Gotta disagree with you on Eight Days a Week, it was a number one record, how bad could it have been?

  24. Grant

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

What I think is worse is Paul's duet with Stevie Wonder on "What's That You're Doing". How embarrassing!

I can't get my brain functioning on music yet, so i'll be back...

Hey, I happen to like Tears For Fears 'Sowing The Seeds of Love', I think it is a classic.
As for Tanita Tikaram 'Hot Pork Sandwiches', I like that one too; I think it's a fun little ditty.

Here are some numbers I nominate:

Bruce Springsteen 'Hungry Heart', 'Out in The Street', 'Cover Me'. I absolutely HATE those songs.

    The Rolling Stones 'Undercover'; puleeeeezuh!

Prince 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' and just about anything he recorded after the Emancipation triple album, which itself contained some duds, like his cover of 'If God Was One of Us'

Tori Amos 'Space Dog' I just find that bass riff too cheesy.

I know there are more, but I just can't think right now.
