Folks...if I were to compose a LONG document describing step by step...how to setup a turntable properly, would you be interested? Furthermore, if I were to do so...could this be made "sticky" so it will stay around for a while to help people out? I figure that if I'm so neurotic that it takes me three days to set up my table, I must be doing something right.:D

    Prix,

It might be a challenge, but could you provide the turntable set-up for each member's make and model? :D

If not, I guess one tutorial would be fine!

Sure. Not a problem. I'll provide a phone call at my expense to any forum member in the USA for as long as it takes me to walk you through the setup of your table for a flat fee of $25 payable through Paypal. Forum members who purchased their table from me, receive free consultation.;)

For those who will be setting up their turntables, you will need the following tools. Get them now and you'll be ready:

    1) Stylus force gauge-Shure makes one that's $20 and works great.
    2) Allignment protractor-Grab yourself a $20 mirrored job from www.turntablebasics.com
    3) Small flashlight
    4) Laser pointer
    5) Small bubble level and also a small standard level
    6) Hi Fi News Test lp
    7) Small pair of needle nose pliers (optional)
    8) Tiny screwdriver for mounting cartridge
    9) A collection of shims (if your table doesn't have adjustable feet)
    10) Whatever tools necessary for setting height and possibly moving base of your tonearm.
    11) The overhang spec/measurement for your tonearm from the manufacturer.
    12) A standard lp that you KNOW is definitely straight as an arrow.
    13) Some cotton swabs and contact cleaner. (I use Caig DeOxit)

Okay...I think that's it. Am I forgetting anything here? I think that's it.

Gorts, What would it take to make another sub forum called education. Only Gorts would be allowed to post in it. When you see an article or a link that is very good for some aspect of audio you would put it in the correct category. Some categories that I have seen that are popular on the forum are TT's, sub-woofers, tubes, digital recording using a PC. The intent is that this is a place where people can find how-to guidance.

    Hi Prix

I've only got a humble Rega Planar 2, but any tweaks are greatfully received!

Pictures would also be helpful, with some of the points on the adjustments, that have to be made.

I think that's an EXCELLENT idea....but why would it be for Gorts only?

Folks, in case you've not read my other thread...there is already an EXCELLENT article on turntable setup by my friend Brooks Berdan...who is widely regarded to be THE analog guru:

    http://www.brooksberdanltd.com/APJ9BerdanReprint.pdf

However, I plan to elaborate on this and include pics, etc, as beginners may find some of this material hard to follow. In the meantime, this is a MUST read for any vinyl enthusiast.

Please do it Prix. I would love to be able to set up my TT without having to take it into my local audio shop. Please include as many photos as possible. :)

Prix, My reason for saying only the Gorts would post in it is that there should not be a lot of articles there, but rather a only a few that have been judged to be really helpful and I assume the Gorts would be the judges.
