LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 8, 2015)
    – The truth is out there…and now it can be found in its entirety when Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment exposes the complete world of “The X-Files” on Blu-ray for the first time – just ahead of the event series premiere Sunday, January 24, 2016. “THE X-FILES” THE COLLECTOR’S SET – featuring a slot for the upcoming six-episode event series – releases on December 8, giving fans the chance to own a piece of television history and one of the year’s must-have giftset collections. Fans can also purchase each season individually on Blu-ray on December 8.

Since its inception in 1993, “The X-Files” has remained a worldwide phenomenon, garnering a loyal cult following, 16 Emmys® and five Golden Globes® Awards, including “Best Dramatic TV Series” during its nine-season run.

Now for the first time, all nine exhilarating, groundbreaking seasons of “THE X-FILES,” along with special features, can be yours to own on Blu-ray! Although they began as reluctant partners, FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (Golden Globe®*** winners David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) ultimately form a powerful bond as they struggle to unravel deadly conspiracies and solve paranormal mysteries.

“THE X-FILES” THE COLLECTOR’S SET features more than 23 hours of content across all nine seasons – perfect for catching up on the series before the new event series airs. Relive all the mythology, conspiracy theories with special features, including behind-the-scenes featurettes, and commentaries by executive producer Chris Carter (“Millennium,” “Harsh Realm”), R.W. Wow, currently $150 (50% off MSRP) on Fox's store!

I hadn't planned on buying this right away, but at that price.... damn!

How much of the special features have been ported over from the DVDs?

Since Amazon price matches, is it safe to assume that the set will be as inexpensive on their site? That's a damn good price for 9 seasons!

Pretty much everything, including what was on the Mythology sets - but, they have deleted (or rather, failed to include) about 10 or 11 commentary tracks, including the one from the famous Jose Chung's From Outer Space episode.

This from a Blu-Ray forum member:
The missing commentary tracks (if the press release is complete - and bear in mind it might not be!) are:
    • Jose Chung's From Outer Space
    • Memento Mori*
    • Small Potatoes
    • Milagro
    • First Person Shooter
    • Je Souhaite
    • Alone
    • Existence
    • Improbable
    • Jump the Shark

*Memento Mori had a second commentary available in the Mythology sets.

Do you have a link? I'm not finding it on their store (probably overlooking the obvious). Very tempted to get it at that price.

Amazon charge tax to where I'm shipping to (NY) and Fox Connect don't, that's $12.11 cheaper via Fox Connect.

Cheap bastids! I wonder if this was a rights problem, or if they just ran out of bit-bucket space and couldn't include the extra sound tracks. I would've gone one more disc and just spread everything out more and kept all the commentaries, but that's me.

  13. They're cheap and have their own little box. The first movie is pretty good the second, not so much.

  14. Some of my favorite episodes, too!

I don't know why almost everyone craps on the second feature film. It's subtle, has a nice ambiance and looks great. It's a good monster of the week episode. What did you expect exactly ?

Well, a plot that wasn't based on Crank 2: High Voltage would have been good.

(Ok, really both films were produced at the same time so it was a coincidence, but still, silly!).

Thankfully the individual seasons look to be in normal cases, so if I buy this set I may just take them out of the big box, store that away, and keep the un-boxed cases on my shelf.

What is the difference between the box set and the nine individual season packages? Is there a difference in content or the way the discs are packaged? Or does the box set just offer an outer package that hold the nine individual sets, plus leaves room for the upcoming six episode mini-series?

I don't see any mention of exclusive bonus material in the box set, so yeah I think it's just the outer package. I assume it's cheaper than buying the individual seasons but don't see a price for those.

If you get the box at 50% off (the current deal at Fox Connect), it comes to effectively $16.67 per season!

  23. Better writing and direction.

Also I don't think anyone was really clamoring for a "monster of the week" X-Files movie. I think fans, myself included, sort of expect a big budget film to deal with the main mythology of the series.

  25. Still don't see it at Amazon. Wonder if there is a tiff.
I agree although I would be ok with something stand alone, too but the writing wasn't very good and the script didn't gel. The idea was hackneyed and has been done better elsewhere.
