Nice amp I have been living with the AS2100 which sits just under the AS3000 and I love it. I have been using the balanced outputs hooked to SACD player Yamaha also.

Enjoy it gets even better when burnt in.

I have no experience with Luxman. I have experience with Quicksilver, Cary, McIntosh, Jolida, Sansui, Marantz, Parasound, NAD and more recently Denon.( and vintage Yamaha).

So far, how are those Lascalas responding to all that power compared to the low wpc tubes you have run in the past?

I may not able to define that, my requirement is to have realistic vocal, 505Ux didn't do that well, paired with Totem Model '1'. Lacking in dynamics

I had paired with Totem model'1', 505ux lacked the dynamic sound.

I don't know what they were listening to, but I don't think it was an A-S3000.

Congratulations and welcome to the Yamaha club! I own the little brother AS-2000 that brought Yamaha back into the premium integrated market and so far, it's been a great buy!

I, for one, am relieved that you went with silver. Slightly more clarity and imaging than the black model. My A-s801 is silver also, for the same reasons.

Congrats! wow I just read a bit about this amp. You win!

Paul Saydor in TAS refers, without explicitly mentioning the publication, to one British review that found the amp smooth but unexciting and to another that found that the amp didn't do rhythm engagingly enough.

Paul says: "I have a hard time getting my mind around judgements like that because reviewers who make them seem to me to be asking the component to contribute something to the source rather than reveal what is in it."

Later he compares the Yamaha with Pass X150.8 finds that the Pass had a little more "crunch."

Why should the silver version sound slightly better than the black? Are different materials used?
(Or have I fallen for an in-joke?)

Silver is brighter than black. All kidding aside, I've always loved Yamaha. My modest 501 is very sweet.

The reflective nature of silver on the exterior reduces unwanted noise during the signal path ;)

All kidding aside, everyone knows that silver is for stereo and black is for multi channel (quad being the one exception).

The Lascalas don't need much power but they don't mind a lot of power either-but this amp isn't breaking a sweat with them anyway

Why no subsonic filter on the new Yamahas? While it's a useful feature many other manufacturers don't have it on their integrates either.

I'm also a Yamaha man :). I love the original seventies design of my old CA 710 and so I inmediately fell for the new high end line, which reflects the classic style, unfortunately my budget only allowed for a modest RS 700....
