haven't seen anyone else cover this, but I've got about a dozen or so CDs that have developed a weird crystalline layer of gunk on the playing surface. won't even read any more. all of them are from digipacks, so I can only assume that it's some kind of chemical reaction to the plastic in the tray. either that or the universe is punishing me for the stupidity of disposing of an MFSL 'Blue Train' in favor of that crappy Ultimate edition (what the HELL was I THINKING?!?). NONE of them are PDOs (I have lots of bronzed PDOs, as well, but none of them have any problem playing). all the "gunk" (sorry if I'm being too technical here) is on the surface and doesn't seem to have corroded the layer beneath the plastic so it shouldn't, in theory, be too much of a problem to get off, but none of the over-the-counter cleaners seem to do much. anything short of sandpaper gonna work? we are talking OOP titles (Sylvian/Fripp 'Jean The Birdman' 2-disc set, Orb 'Assassin' 2-disc set, Einheit/Brotzmann 'Merry Christmas' RTD edition, etc.) anyone else encountered this?
