Keith, many of the Quad reels are fairly interesting and very discreet, clean sound.... Some aren't so hot - Depends on title and manufacturer.

Q8's can sound great, but that's not as often.

Sckott, thanks. I've heard people go ga-ga over reel-to-reels but have never heard one myself.

Quad reels are the ULTIMATE vintage multichannel source. Most of the legit ones (RCA,WEA,Moodies) sound great. I just sent Jamie a direct dub of Nilsson Schmilsson that I did last week (to DTS). I will be interested in hearing what he thinks, since he is a professional sound guy....

By the way, Gorilla is a GREAT quad reel. There are many layers of sound and vocals in the mix, and listening to the rears only will reveal wonderful solo vocals from Crosby, Nash and Carly Simon.
