I don't think it is gonna work. FAIL!

Miami Vice worked because it was the eighties.

Those were different times. There was snow on the palms.

Burn notice did well on its own and did not have to copy anything.

The original show did feature a certain amount of music that wasn't exactly mainstream or cutting edge, especially early on. The reboot could be interesting if they avoided the current Top 40 stuff and tried to feature non-mainstream artists, but maybe do it in a strategic way that creates somewhat of a consistent tone or feel. No idea which artists, etc., but they could make it interesting that way and give it a bit of an identity.

Perhaps the better option would have been to make the reboot an 80s period piece. Lots of other great 80s tunes they could use.

Ugh... another remake... Why just not rebroadcast the original tv series!?

I've recently been re-watching the original and there are a lot of episodes that really hold up. The pilot, "Evan," "Out Where the Buses Don't Run," to name a few. The design, the cinematography etc still looks great today, but when you consider it in terms of the standard for pre-1984 TV shows, it's amazing.

Speaking of Reboots, I like Hawaii 5-0. Not sure yet about Magnum P.I.

    It's a reboot world!

Interestingly, the recent version of Hawaii Five-O isn't bad at all (IMO). But normally reboots are just awful.

The recent Netflix TV reboot was actually pretty entertaining, but the 1998 Lost in Space movie was unwatchable by humans. And was a huge bomb that got extremely bad reviews.

    I liked the LIS Netflix.

Miami Vice was a breath of fresh air when it came out.

Not sure it could be duplicated.

People who weren't around when Miami Vice hit the air in the 1980s don't get how stunning and influential that show was. I happened to be working for a company about 3 blocks from Universal in 1984, so I actually worked on the show before it hit the air a few months later. Even the dailies were pretty stunning, and I thought at the time, "this can't miss: melodramatic, violent stories, very bold look, basically a dramatized music video, cool characters... this can't miss." And when I saw the finished shows in September, I was glad to see it was as good as we hoped it would be.

The Vice producers and editors were driven mad by Michael Mann, who really tried to micromanage the whole operation from his Miami offices (since the show was edited and finished in LA). We had some very tense moments when I worked on the show again in 1987-1988... if a call from Michael came in, you know it wasn't gonna be good. But he fought very hard with the network to make the shows fresh and edgy, and this was really stunning back in those days. The music helped a lot, too, and I think it was the first regular series I ever worked on that was mixed in stereo.
