It's a trick question - no one has too many records. Theoretically, if the person who owns the largest record collection in the world ever married the person who owns the second largest record collection in the world AND they decided not to discard the duplicates THEN maybe you could say that they have too many. But ONLY them and ONLY in that one imaginary scenario. Everyone else is fine.
You bought an abandoned Tower Records store, complete with all of its empty racks, and it wasn't enough space.
...You want to move to California, but it would be easier to move California to the record collection!
...your house is appraised below market value without the records. With the records, you could sell the property for 10 million dollars!
...your car gets stolen and three months later you still haven't worked out what CDs were in there and are now lost. Yeah, it happened...
...you find it perfectly normal to have 20 different variations of A Hard Day's Night on United Artists.
If car insurance claims are anything like homeowners claims, you're probably only getting a check for $400. Spend it wisely. Yeah, it happened to me, too.
...you even collect "Chu-Bops Bubble Gum Records"! (I have two myself for Unmasked by Kiss. The album was "bubble gum" after all)...
when a stranger walks into your home and is gobsmacked! by how many records you have, and your like 'man, this is nothing compared to what others have'. and you mean it quite sincerely and tell yourself 'I don't have a vinyl addiction problem'
.....I happily leave cd's piled up on the cd player as have no room or time to continually try and remove less important cds so i can fit the new ones in the racks. I debate with myself constantly what needs to stay and what needs to be moved out to that cardboard box in the loft (the one i'll give to my son/daughter..........eventually,) as its not really worth trading those cd's in for a few pence, they may end up being worth something. And thats just cd's, dont get me started on vinyl. I found a wonderful secondhand vinyl store, took in about 10 LPs to trade expecting to get very little and they offered me £65 store credit! Spent the next 3 months trying to spend it before learning they were closing and moving to bigger premises nearby, but will be closed for a few months. I have a whole pile of records (a good 10 or so,) ready to trade in when they re-open. Some really good items, (1) to make space as they're duplications and (2) because i know i'll go for more store credit and then struggle yet again to fit more purchases in. Sigh!
