Feel free to define "heavy metal" how you see fit (Jethro Tull is acceptable! :D).

    Good ones!!

I love every one of those bands! But can Helmet be considered heavy metal? Can any of those? Sepultura maybe. This why including heavy metal as descriptor makes it so difficult.

    Mine:

(basing it on what “heavy metal” means to me)

    Black Sabbath
    Venom
Motörhead (or are they hard rock or just “rock n roll” according to Lemmy)
    16 (again, a grey area)
Blue Öyster Cult (another grey area)

See, to me, Scorpions and Budgie aren’t metal bands. That said, I’m not going to be the sub genre police here.

Tough not list Sabbath & Slayer. Not so much that one is better to me but I listen to these five the most often.I still feel like I`m leaving out something important no matter wich list I come up with.
