    we all have favorite artists...
    We all have hated artists

While many of us would say our favorite artists are our most listened to artists, that isn't always the case...

This post is for the 50 artists you've listened to the most...

How do I know what I've listened to the most? Well I use the app 'SongsInfo'.

For my lifetime this wouldn't mesh, but since I went digital (Jan-13) this is where I've stood... see below and what's yours? I have had some tunes digital since ~2004-5 but used to mostly upload to make CD-R mixes never listening on phone or iPod...

Also any similar apps you may recommend? Being able to track tunes has made my mostly digital music life that much better...

The list via playback time (not merely plays) (Sept-17)
    1. The Beatles - 169 hrs: 33 mins
    2. The Waterboys - 131 hrs: 58 min

So, it's not about favourites or considered appraisal - it's about how much music?.

A quick scan of my iTunes library reveals David Bowie and Bob Dylan neck to neck each hovering over 4 days each.

The Beatles come in next with more than two days of listening pleasure. All unique (versions and mixes). Nothing like your 'over a week' of The Beatles.

With over a day of music there's Lou Reed, (and separately) The Velvet Underground as well as T.(yrannosaurs) Rex.

A majority of a day could be spent with any of the three (ex) Beatles main songwriters, Elvis Costello, Ella Fitzgerald, Françoise Hardy, Iggy Pop (& The Stooges), Louis Armstrong, The Kinks, Nilsson or The Rolling Stones.

    There's 14.

After that the mental calculations get more difficult, though I noticed there's a number of performers in the 8 - 12 hour bracket. Perhaps when I have more time.

99% of my listening has been to CDs, LPs, Cassettes and Performances. So any digital summation would be irrelevant.

But I am sure my own music (some originals, some covers I play or sing on) tops the list, followed by the Beatles and ex-Beatles, and I expect the Grateful Dead come in at number 3.

This is just for the last two years, but it's something. It had "Cash Box Kings and "The Cash Box Kings" separate, so I had add those up. I also added my Buddy Guy & Junior Wells to my Buddy Guy totals. I did not add my Elf plays to Dio's totals, however.

Biggest surprise? No Rainbow in my Top 50. Would be for all-time in reality, though.

I'm not all digital (well, I am this year, but only because I'm away from home). Much of my digital listening occurs in my crash pad rather than my main home via files on a hard drive attached to my bluray player where this program ('app' if you insist) wouldn't work, and then classical listening would throw it all off anyway, with one recording of Bach's Mass credited to the composer, another to the conductor, another to the orchestra, other to the orchestra spelled differently... I hate those stupid tag things.

I don't have any statistics, but I have probably spent 100+ hours on Mike's music more than any other artist.

The Rolling Stones would probably be second, followed by Elvis Costello, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and the Church (all bands I've been unhealthily obsessed with), but not one of them comes close to the depths of unhealthiness and obsession that I've sunk into Mr. Scott and his wonderful, wonderful art.

I think my favorite song still is (and always was, and probably always will be) "New York I Love You", but in the short time it's been available (and in the disproportionately enormous number of times I've listened to it) my "current favorite" has bounced between nearly all of them. Even songs that I thought were just okay on first listen, like "If I Was Your Boyfriend" and "The Elegant Companion" I've found myself reaching for. He picked the best songs to release as singles/advance tracks, but they didn't really show me what the scope of the album would be. That was for the best - I really liked all the singles but the album shattered my expectations. Here's hoping my 3CD arrives in the mail tomorrow... kinda sucks that I ordered this back in July and twelve days after release it's still in transit...

I ought to just start up an all-purpose Waterboys thread so I stop derailing other topics.

I've said this before, but I love your profile picture. But you probably realized that.
