A few months back, I took a chance on a Madonna s/t CD that clearly had a back insert saying it was printed in Japan. Bid $10 and won. Got the red Japanese "Target" pressing!

Bryan Ferry - Taxi UK LP for only $4. I think total with shipping was $14. Couldn't believe no one else bid on it! Record had many light scratches but played with only minor surface noise, so I was very pleased to say the least.

Pioneer Elite SC-35 $850.00 flat. Picked it up, sealed, locally in Santa Ana at an A/V store..cash with no sales tax figured in & with factory warranty & store receipt. It is a big heavy mother. The guy is still selling them on the bay as of tonight. I made the pick-up deal w/no pay-pal.

Most recent was a Groove Armada: Lovebox SACD for <$10 shipped from UK at the beginning of the year.

But that was not quite as good as getting a sealed Bob Dylan SACD box set for $25 shipped in 2010 :righton:

Stone mint UK Orig mono textured Orange pressings of every UK Dylan title except for Blonde on Blonde. Gentleman was selling his parents albums on Ebay, was into cars and top gear etc, but didnt know records. I was buying one album, and was working on shipping via email and he offered the entire collection. I think he charged me something completely rediculous for shipping, but when I opened the package I was in shock at the condition of the records and jackets. Cleanest 60s UK pressings Ive ever seen. Paid just a few pounds per lp.

Not on eBay, but picked up The Tragically Hip's Fully Completely vinyl on 2 different occasions for $7 each time, from online retailers. This vinyl is very rare and typically sells for $50 to $75 on eBay.

I only really bid on promo items or obscure metal CDs on ebay so I'm usually the only bidder at 99 cents. :D

Not music related but several years ago I purchased a really rare book from ebay for only five bucks. It was listed around 2 in the morning so I grabbed that baby up. It later turned out that the seller had made a typo (forgot to add a zero)! I pressed him on it and he ended up letting me have it for 5 bucks! I do feel kind of sorry for the guy. I'd hate to mess up like that on something valuable :sigh:

Best deal for me: a matched pair of Schoeps CMC 641 microphones for $1800. They're easily worth $3000+. The seller had a very low rating and was in a small town, so I think a lot of people were reluctant to bid. I took a leap of faith and everything worked out fine -- plus the serial numbers checked out as legit by the U.S. distributor.

I still use these mikes, and they last damn near forever, so this was a great deal. Some things like film lenses and microphones hold their value for years. Other things -- especially displays like projection TVs, and high-tech items like DVD players -- plummet in value very quickly.

Not Ebay, but Amazon Marketplace - I bought the Grant Green Retrospective 4CD box (new and sealed) for £1.35 + £1.24 shipping (!)

It was surely a repricing software error, and I fully expected the seller (one of the megasellers) to cancel the order, but to their great credit, they honoured it. I left very gushing feedback - didn't crow about benefitting from their error - just lavished them with praise.

I don't know if it was my best deal but I have enjoyed the albums:

    T. Rex – Electric Warrior
    T. Rex – The Slider
    T. Rex – Ride A White Swan
    T. Rex – T. Rex In Concert
    T. Rex – Tanx
    T. Rex - Where is the Wine
Tyrannosaurus Rex – A Beard Of Stars
Tyrannosaurus Rex - Prophets, Seers & Sages / My People Were Fair
    Tyrannosaurus Rex – Unicorn

I think I paid under $50 for all
