It would've been interesting to see/hear how things would've developed if Lemmy had stayed in Hawkwind and Steve Hillage in Gong.

What if they didn't play any electronics and were not the hippest band in the early 80's, but in the 30's?

    Here is our answer:

What if Rob Ritter of the Gun Club had actually been recorded properly with the band. HIs bass seeems to be the lead instrument on a lot olf tracks but not given enough presence on the studio stuff.
Also would have been interesting to hear what the 3 piece band without Jeffrey Lee Pierce being insufferable around them would have sounded like recorded. THought JLP being an irritant may have been poart of his creativity and the resulting band not sound so maverick.

Would also have loved to hear the band that Jeff Buckley had around him around the time of Grace stick together without him. Not sure to what extent he gelled the group but liked them all individually.

  5. What if Lindsay Buckingham had been replaced in Fleetwood Mac by Bob Mould? Imagine the possibilities.

Would Mould still have to pretend kiss Stevie Nicks at the end of "Landslide" at shows?
    Imagine that possibility.

What if David Crosby had not gotten thrown out of the Byrds? I think the band would have continued to make some incredible music. But we wouldn’t have gotten “Sweetheart” and there’d be no CSN.

He probably would have been alive a bit longer. He may have certainly gotten better film roles and access to better songs to record.

That's such a huge one! He might've had the greatest career in show business if the Colonel had been removed early on or at least around the time Elvis went into the Army.

Imagine if he'd cleaned up some and appeared in A Star is Born? Not the best movie but c'mon, a somewhat cleaned up Elvis in there?

I think the biggest issue was Paker’s lack of vision, short term thinking and greed for the easy $.
If Presley has been free of this we could have seen more work of quality like “From Elvis In Memphis” and less poor quality recordings as seen in some of the film soundtracks. If he had been allowed to explore more music he could have been happier, and perhaps lived longer. The management and the publishing rites restrictions really tied him down and perhaps he would have lived longer, or at least not waste 8 years making poor movies with poor soundtracks.
I know there was some great stuff he recorded in this period (I have all of them), but we could have had so much more.
Even in the worst soundtracks there is buried some good stuff, which were nothing to do with the film, they were regarded as “bonus songs”. For example on “California Holiday” as a bonus song is his rendition of Dylans “Tomorrow Is A Long Time” with a running time of 5:19 it is an amazing piece of work. It gives a glimpse of what could have been.

He may have been allowed to record songs by younger singer-songwriters like Springsteen and , yes, Elvis Costello. He certainly would have been impressed by Dylan's "Born-Again" period and would have been well-positioned to take advantage of any and all Americana, New Country and "back to roots" movements. And imagine him on MTV.
    Alas.

That's always been one of the really tantalizing "what ifs" to me. He lived to the middle of August of 1977. He was really just four or five years away from MTV. Who knows...

What if Lee Mavers was happy with the first attempt at the La's album - in 87, before he even wrote There She Goes?

That would have been for the second album, and if he was happy with that... What a magnificent album.

I dream of Fishing Net being a number one single back in alternate universe 1993.

    -

What if Led Zeppelin continued to the 80s? Their sound would have needed adjusting, and it would have been fascinating how. Maybe they'd even create something new?

    -

What if Johnny Marr never left the Smiths? Morrissey's Viva Hate and Bona Drag era showed he definitely still had the lyrical skills, but they almost certainly would have had to adapt a new sound, which Marr was wanting to do anyway.

Would they have gone into dodgy territory, compromising their art for the sake of not being left behind? Would Morrissey ever sing over something Johnny made that sounded like Electronic? Or would they continue to forge ahead with guitar music that remained experimental occasionally and utterly unique?

    ---

What it Syd never did acid? Would the music be as good? Would he still have gone mad (I believe so?)

Would I live in a wonderful world without Roger Waters' ego growing too much? :)

    --
    And finally...

What if SMiLE came out when it was meant to, and was received very well?

What if someone had put some hallucinegens into the water in the CBS/Sony America board room, and the decision came out, "Hell, these SACD's sound great, even if they are a niche product so far! So, keep 'em coming, and see where that goes..." :goodie:

BUT...the Sony execs in Japan were served the same water, and decided..."We just don't see this getting anywhere - everybody in favor of taking the SACD abilities out of our players going forward, say "aye"...! :yikes:

What if Badfinger had a decent manager, would Pete and Tom still be around? Wish You Were Here is such a great album, I feel there was a lot of good music left in the band. Most importantly though would Pete and Tom have lived long, happy lives. I'd like to think so.

I seriously doubt anything major happened to Dylan on that bike. There simply would have been too many people aware of it.
He was burnt toast, and he did the right thing to stop the madness.

What if Robert Plant had joined XYZ (the band Jimmy Page, Chris Squire, and Alan White had put together in 1981) like they wanted him to and it worked out?

What if Mick & Keith culled the best from their respective solo records and put them on a Stones album circa 1986 instead of Dirty Work?

What if Metallica didn't cut their hair for Load? Would it have been more accepted?

What if Paul's family had gone to stay with Bob's family instead of a farm in Scotland. They both seemed to be family focused and at an artistic crossroad in the early 70s. Might have amounted to nothing but might also have resulted in a whole other level of music.
