    You certainly understand the lyrics when the vocals are naked. nuance is often lost in the mix.

    Yeah...isolated vocal tracks are not a capella performances. Bobby McFerrin and Take 6 featured a capella performances, but I always think of the 1950s as A Capella Heyday.

    "Leave It" was the song that got me into Yes as a teenager - 90125 was the first album I owned. Sometimes I'd hear the a cappella version on the radio (edited, presumably by the radio station, to match the length of the familiar version). I wondered how they took the instruments out. Only later did I learn that the a cappella version was the B-side of the single.

    If you have never heard Chanticleer sing or listened to their recordings, you are missing a treat. They are a professional male a cappella group from San Francisco, and they include gospel, jazz standards, and pop arrangements in all their programs. They embody the highest levels of musicianship, and they do "music for the soul".
