Issues regarding identity, non-conformity yet the eternal desire to fit in, and many other elements are all part of the
of the disease though. And then there is the late 6os which were, no doubt, fairly hazardous to say the least.
Anyway, The Doors got a lot of really astounding work out there in their short time together. Somehow, I can’t imagine how JM could’ve conceived and performed as he did without the booze....came with the territory, I’m afraid.
Again, it just would have ended better perhaps if he’d gotten treatment.

A common issue often thrown up that alcohol & drugs are essential to the creative process. John Coltrane proves this to be false by producing his most outstanding evocative work after he kicked his heroin problems. Alcohol & drugs kill the creative process & eventually kill the addict.

This thread bring back great memories! I was in the 9th - 10th grade, turned 15 in October, 1967. So all of these albums were my soundtrack, and I bought as many as I could afford (not that many) at the time - or circled back and bought them later when I had more funds.

4 albums that I bought new in 1967 that continue to cast a magical spell over me are as follows...
#1.The Doors s/t hit with so much power that it almost blew everything else off the musical map...

There was absolutely nothing that sounded like the 1967 era Doors...

Sitting down to dinner with your family was never the same after The Doors....

The Doors is my #1 record of all time

#2.Fresh Cream was the arrival of country blues juiced by Claptons English electric guitar pyrotechnics backed by the bone crushing sounds of drummer Ginger Baker & Bassist Jack Bruce....

As influential in their way as the Beatles were in theirs...

The psychedelic 60s jam would never have flourished like it did without Cream.Period.

    A awesome sound!(especially in mono)

Again nothing sounded like this in 1967...until

    #3.Jimi Hendrix Experience - AYE
On the back of the cover the last 2 words were Be Forewarned but that still couldn't prepare the listeners for the onslaught of prophetic music found within the grooves of yet another unqualified 1967 debut...

Guitar and music in general would forever be changed by the arrival of James Marshall Hendrix...

A top 5 favorite still today

Finally the 3rd greatest acid experience on vinyl ever recorded...

#4.Country Joe And The Fish - EMFTMAB was the album all self respecting hippies carried under their arm...

It is one of 3 premeir psychedelic albums from the 1960s & another of my favs....

I would love to be able to include Great Society - Conspicuous Only In Its Absence because it is my fav psychedelic album over everything (excluding Doors) but alas I can't because it was recorded in 1966 & released in 1968 as a cash grab for Grace Slicks involvement & immense talent in the Jefferson Airplane...

This was/is the fabled San Francisco Sound & contains the definitive versions of White Rabbit & Somebody To Love...

Anyway the other LPs I named will forever hold a special place in my heart as great musical memories from the year 1967

In 1967 I turned 11 years old & hadn't started buying albums. That would start in 1970 & has been an obsession ever since. Being there at the time is a very different journey & has a different feel to going back to rediscover what you missed out on. The internet has been the greatest aid to re-discovery & is equally as efficient in discovering new artists & albums if you are a seeker.
