There are so many great ones. Here is a giant handful that are personal favorites. They either are better than "the hit", in my opinion, or at least help to complement the A side into something where the single is something greater than just "two songs"... I Feel Fine / She's A Woman - The Beatles Ticket To Ride / Yes It Is - The Beatles Hey Jude / Revolution - The Beatles The Tracks Of My Tears / A Fork In The Road - The Miracles I Get Around / Don't Worry Baby - The Beach Boys Wouldn't It Be Nice / God Only Knows - The Beach Boys Dance, Dance, Dance / The Warmth Of The Sun - The Beach Boys Immigrant Song / Hey Hey What Can I Do - Led Zeppelin Draw The Line / Bright Light Fright - Aerosmith Go Your Own Way / Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac 1999 / How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore? - Prince American Woman / No Sugar Tonight - The Guess Who Laughing / Undun - The Guess Who A Little Less Conversation / Almost In Love - Elvis Presley I've Lost You / The Next Step Is Love - Elvis Presley Love Letters / Cone What May - Elvis Presley Travelin Man / Hello Mary Lou - Ricky Nelson She's Always A Woman / Vienna - Billy Joel Green River / Commotion - Creedence Clearwater Revival Travelin Band / Who'll Stop The Rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival Human Nature / Baby Be Mine - Michael Jackson I'll Be In Trouble / The Girl's Alright With Me - The Temptations Light My Fire / The Crystal Ship - The Doors Hello, I Love You / Love Street - The Doors Under My Wheels / Desperado - Alice Cooper Hello Hurray / Generation Landslide - Alice Cooper Beginnings / Colour My World - Chicago Hard To Say / The Innocent Age - Dan Fogelberg Lido Shuffle / We're All Alone - Boz Scaggs Jumpin Jack Flash / Child Of The Moon - The Rolling Stones Street Fighting Man / No Expectations - The Rolling Stones Honky Tonk Women / You Can't Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones Brown Sugar / Bitch - The Rolling Stones And this is by no means a complete list! But, if you're like me, you could make a star-studded playlist of just these flip sides without even using any of the A sides. Enjoy!
My playlist of Elvis B-side faves: swaggering, daring, proud yet humble, beaten yet never truly down, magnificent when victorious and always unforgettable! Baby Let’s Play House My Baby Left Me Don’t Be Cruel Anyway You Want Me Treat Me Nice I Got Stung Fame And Fortune Mess Of Blues Little Sister They Remind Me Too Much Of You It Hurts Me Suspicion It Feels So Right High Heel Sneakers Any Day Now You’ll Think Of Me Always On My Mind Hurt
"Vital Signs (live)", the B-side to Rush's "New World Man" sounded like an Exit...Stage Left outtake. Unfortunately, it has never surfaced on CD and remains a conspicuous Rush "rarity".
A couple of Guess Who tracks have been mentioned already but my favourite is Running Down the Street:
Great Manfred Mann b-side. Older British readers might remember it being on a TV advert for Manikin cigars...

Hazeldine - Apothecary Flipside of their sole 7" single "Tarmac" (Cherry Smash, 1996). Hazeldine were an alternative country band from Albuquerque/New Mexico: Shawn Barton (vocals, guitar), Tonya Lamm (guitar, vocals), Anne Tkach (bass) and Jeffrey Richards (guitar, banjo, drums). Following the 7" release, "Apothecary" subsequently appeared on Hazeldine's debut album "How Bees Fly" in 1997. The group disbanded in 2002. After Hazeldine had come to an end, Tonya Lamm formed Tres Chicas (with ex-Whiskeytown Caitlin Cary and ex-Glory Fountain Lynn Blakey). The bassist Anne Tkach was very active in the music scene (Nadine, Bad Folk, Magic City, Rough Shop) before sadly dying in a fire at her father's house in 2015.
...Was that, simply in strict maxtrix numbers, a B-side? I would think that, since it was edited as a single, that it was, sorta, a double A-side promotionally (With this side, needless to, not exacctly being the Pop airplay candidate!!! In '64? Ya think?) I was a big oldies radio listener and I think I never heard this song til I bought that '86? 28-song anthology. Now, especially since Obama, it's " practically canon! So to speak. tefane, post: 18141238, member: 20433"]Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come Perhaps the greatest B-side ever. Released in 1964 as the flipside to "Shake". Hard to tell if I would prefer Sam Cooke's original or Otis Redding's 1965 cover. "I go to the movie and I go downtown Somebody keep tellin' me don't hang around It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will" Perhaps the greatest B-side ever. ...Really, wasn't the Pendletons' effort promoted as a double A--side? Perhaps this is vague, but ~ Almost all Fabs B-sides charted, but, of course, They Were The Fabs. Elvis, too. (Rick Nelson and Connie Francis charted a considerable numbber of the Bs as well, if II recall correctly.)
You remind me of gold. B side of Mirror Man. The Human League This remains my favorite Bside of all time.
I see some RSD 45's come along. Would the record community support the release of 45's on a regular basis? Opinions? I will post my B-Sides shortly.
I can answer my question this way. If there were B-Sides like these and what others have posted, then I would support the 45 record again. Tom Petty-Casa Dega , The Beatles- This Boy, The Inner Light, Baby Your a Rich Man, I'm Down, Old Brown Shoe, Rain, Don't Let Me Down, You Know My Name, Yes It Is, She's A Woman, Revolution. ( The Beatles understood the value of a B-Side better than most. When they covered Mr. Moonlight, they were sending a message that B-Sides were undiscovered gems. ) Rolling Stones. The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man, Dandelion, Buddy Holly- Mailman Bring Me No More Blues, Everyday, Raining in My Heart Led Zeppelin- Hey Hey What Can I do? The Monkees- Goin' Down R.E.M.- Fretless George Harrison- Lay His Head, Miss O'Dell, Deep Blue, ( Harrison made a number 1 hit out of a Rudy Clark B-Side with I Got My Mind Set On You!) Paul McCartney- Yvonne, Oh Woman Oh Why, The Mess Prince- She's Always In My Hair. Talking Heads- Bill ( Cassette only) Soundgarden- She Likes Surprises. The Cars- Fun Time, Little Black Egg, That's It Chuck Berry- Things I Used To Do. Bruce Springsteen- Pink Cadillac The Who- Heaven and Hell, Neil Young- Sugar Mountain Jimi Hendrix- Highway Chile Fleetwood Mac- World in Harmony, Silver Springs Johnny Cash- Get Rhythm Elton John- House of Cards, Sick City Pearl Jam- Yellow Ledbetter, Soldier of Love Marshall Crenshaw- Your My Favorite Waste of Time Black Crowes- Waitin' Guilty Dire Straits- Eastbound Train Golden Earring- Just Like Vince Taylor (U.S. SINGLE) Was issued on the European Moontan album not on U.S. Nirvana- Marigold.
The collector's would like things that are special. Things like exact replicas of vintage picture sleeves, rare b-sides, mono where the mixes are dedecated mono, and maybe period labels or fancy colored vinyl. All this is asking too much of a label that is in it strictly for the money. There has to be some love of the art. So no, the record company likely would not be supportive.
Digging the new Sweet box set with the "Lost Singles" CD in heavy rotation. *All* the B-Sides are awesome, but this one is getting more play than the others this week:
The Kinks Days b/w She's Got Everything Dave Davies Death Of A Clown b/w Love Me Till The Sun Shines The Who Summertime Blues b/w Heaven And Hell
Many great ones already listed, but did not see "Black Honeymoon" by Carly Simon. It was the b side of "Tired Of Being Blonde".
