For me it would have to be ELP and King Crimson. Usually when it comes to Yes or Genesis, they get hooked pretty quick, but these two groups always seem to either bore them or go in one ear and out the other. What are some groups you've had trouble introducing your friends too, and what albums do you usually use to eventually win them over (or try)?

King Crimson is the first one that came to mind. On the other end of the spectrum, most of my friends refuse to even try to listen to the Ramones. The Grateful Dead, Yes, and Rush took some effort, but I eventually got people to like them. It's typically a matter of preconceived notions about a band. For example, not liking the Grateful Dead because of "Truckin'," or not liking Thin Lizzy because of "The Boys are Back in Town," or assuming "Roundabout" is the only good Yes song because it's the only one on the radio. If I can get people to give the bands a chance, they usually like them.

I wouldn't know. I have long since given up trying to make anyone like anything they most likely aren't even remotely interested in. I hope my stance also discourages them to try and persuade me to get into their favourite groups.

Are we to assume that they want to get into the bands/music that I like?

Most of my friends don't listen to anything that I do and I don't ever try to force them to listen to any of it. It allows me to actually keep a few friends that way. :D

I know that I start to avoid people who try to make me listen to what they think I should like!

Can't get anyone to like three of my four favorites: The Jam (or anything Weller's done), The Wedding Present or Guided by Voices (everyone already likes Pearl Jam).

    I need new friends.

It's been a while since I've even tried to do it, but I remember nobody else climbing aboard the King Diamond bandwagon.

    Easy. VU and...The Beatles!

My friends who like Lou Reed don't dig the Fab Four, and vice versa. I get it but I don't.

Bob Dylan and Lou Reed/Velvet Underground are the two artists that come to mind. Everyone thinks I'm weird for listening to them.

Pretty much all of the groups I enjoy. I play a lot of Beatles in my car and my friends are always like "can you play something else?" Then there's my one friend who likes classic rock, so I tried to introduce the Zombies to him, but he swiftly told me that he only heard "She's Not There" and "Time of The Season" and that he didn't like them...

    I can never win.

I have friends who like Kiss, hair bands and metal. Jethro Tull doesn't do anything for them.

Oh sure, some people like him a bit, a few songs here and there, this album, that record...but none that I know recognizes the absolute brilliance of Lou Reed. Except for my wife, the convert.
