I doubt that! After all, you've had yours longer than I've had mine. I'll bet they are suffering from neglect, you never talk to them, you never ask them how their day was and you take them for granted.

I can provide them with a good home.... ;)

No, they're JBL. They were the consumer version of the (in)famous 4311 studio monitors. Some people love 'em, some people hate 'em... I happen to be in the former camp.

I still love my Dalhaquist DQ-10's, combined with a passive Dalhaquist sub. Too bad the new wide screen set I want won't leave any room for them.

I'm a Paradigm fan. I now own four studio 40's, but in the past have owned speakers in the monitor series and thought they were great also. At price points under $2,000 a pair I think they are very hard to beat. If you can afford more than that I am sure there are many worthy choices.

Gary, that's great! I think they sound very nice. When you don't audition new equipment all the time, it's probably easier to remain satisfied with what you have.

It feels good to be out of the closet

These Sony's sound really good for under $300. It would floor you. Seriously, if you get a chance to hear them.. do so.

    Found them here:

    http://www.audioreview.com/Main+Speaker/Sony%2CSSM%2CF600H%2CSpeaker/PRD_126715_1594crx.aspx

Bought them 6 mo ago and love it! FOR THE MONEY..

There are better sounding speakers... but not for under $300!

I heard the previous version a couple years back. Knocked my friggin' socks off.
It was at Cherry Creek Audio in Denver. They were run by some huge Audio Research tube amps and we played a VPI analog front. I had my NM copy of Peter Gabriel's 4th album and played "The Rhythm of the Heat". :bigeek:
I also remember playing an early 70's Philips LP of Vivaldi. The amount of detail and low level rez in that LP was staggering. It changed my opinion on Philips classical LPs ever since. Many sound incredible.

    What a speaker!!!!

Lower down the line, I recently heard a pair of Meadowlark's new 'Swift' entry level speaker. Beautiful clear and open sound.
Guess what the store owner played! A CD-R of Steve's CCR remaster LP! I especially remember the sound of the cymbals on "Suzie Q". Wow!
Bass-shy speakers though. They really need a good sub I think, but well worth a listen.

I've got the 3D Acoustics 3D6/10B three-piece that Julian Hirsch raved about back in the early 80's. He rarely raved about anything, but for this review he used words I'd never seen him use before, like "open and sweet" for example. He also said the speakers sounded as good as a 4,000.00 reference pair in his lab. Actually, he said that aside from the ability to play ultra loud, and to go all the way down to 20hz, he'd never heard a set of speakers sound better than these did, in his listening lab anyway. When I found a set for 350.00 on closeout back in 1983, I bought 'em.

They're very inefficient by today's standards (83db/1 watt), a bit placement sensitive, a little recessed in the upper midrange, and a little warm in the upper bass, but when they're set up right they sound, well, "sweet and open" and pretty wonderful. I've been listening to new speakers lately, and I can't find anything under 2 grand that'll compete with them on the variety of music I listen to. Some speakers sound better on classical, some better on rock, some better on acoustic jazz and folk, some better on home theater--but the 3D Acoustics do it all, with panache.

I had the successor to the L100, called the Jubal L65, I believe. Had a smoked glass top, nice grill (red or brown), so were quite good-looking. They rocked as well. Was quite happy with them for about 10 years. Friend of mine bought 'em and has now had 'em for about 15 years. That 1970's speaker is still goin' strong.

In the dark and distant dimness of time I once owned a pair of Kef 105/2 Reference speakers (actually the last pair off the production line) and they had a magic eye feature that allowed you to position the mid range and tweeters to dial in the sweet spot . I've liked aspects of each of the speakers I've owned (wouldn't have bought them otherwise I guess) and would have kept them all if space would allow. (I hate getting rid of anything)

    All the best - Andrew

My favorites I could never afford were the Martin Logan CLS, back in 1988. *sigh* After that, I pretty much fell out of the loop on audio gear, since I'd have had to replace my electronics (or at least the power amp) to drive those dudes.

I still have two pair of Grafyx SP10's. Liked the first pair so much I had to get another. Think Large Advent, but vented instead of sealed. Bass goes quite low for a 10" driver (approx 30 Hz). A pair went on eBay a couple of weeks ago for $24.99....I'd have bought them if they were local. For other systems in the house, I have a few pairs of Boston A40's--the one A40-II pair I picked up used with cabinets that had seen better days, so they're my "outdoors-on-the-deck" pair in the summer. A pair of A60's are my main computer speakers, and the "home theater" setup in the den sports a pair of Small Advents as the front speakers. Watched a pair of A150's go on eBay for $80. Would have been nice fronts for a surround setup.

I'm more apt to design and build my own these days. My array of four Klipschorns powered by megawatts for a recreation-room setup will have to wait a few more years. ;) I may eventually get a pair of original Advents just out of curiosity--it's been a few decades since I've heard a good pair. And now that I can refoam the surrounds, no problem!

My current speaker is the Link M300, Link is a small Belgian company and they make hand build speakers.
The upgrade I would like to make would be either a set of Martin Logan speakers or a set of Xanadu AW25 speakers. I auditioned them both, and both have a lot of good points but both will give me huge placement problems, so I will probably won't buy either of them.

Does anyone remember the name of the speaker company that used to advertise in the back of Stereo Review? They used to make these tall tower speakers that seemingly had at least a dozen drivers (a couple of woofers of various sizes on either side, midranges and tweeters on the front, etc.). IIRC, they used to have a model standing next to the speaker in their ads, and they were usually near the classified section of the mag.
