    Okay,
Someone will probably print this and throw darts at it , but....

I use two Pioneer CS-G 403 three-way speakers with 18-inch woofers for the front channels, Pioneer shielded speaker for front middle, and two Pioneer CS-G 303 three-way speakers with 12-inch woofers for the rear.

Pioneer? You have to hear them to believe the sound. I've had them for ten years now and have had no problems whatsoever.

The Cerwin-Vega D-4's I use for the master bedroom setup have been in operation now for 18 years--very neutral sounding with strong bass.

Hmmm, Sony and now Pioneer!! Methinks that the majors have released some mainly ignored, but quality stuff!

    Gary,

Maybe because it was off-season, but the retailer was out of Naugahyde-clad speakers. So, I had to settle for wood, instead. Felt guilty listening to Don Henley because I wondered if the veneer came from Walden Woods!

Yep. The "Jubal" was also JBL. As I mentioned, it succeeded the L100. It was just a nickname they gave to the speaker, like they called the L100 "Century," but the model number was L65.

Paul, your post is very poorly worded. I don't understand the meaning. I'm sure you meant that you are happy to have saved a few Naugas by requesting wood veneer....

Perhaps the Gorts could have a Nauga Check as well as a Spell Check feature in the future! :)

    Infinty!

I have both Infinity Interlude 50's and Intermezzo 2.6 speakers! The 2.6 really are a hell of a small speaker! They rock hard, go deep for there size, have excellent control, great dynamics and great clarity. Add my Velodyne subs, and they are world class! Only the big Prelude Infinity's beat them!

My favourite loudspeakers are my Kef 107's. Their performance on cathedral organ music is dramatic, with bass that shakes the house. They are elegant, as well, with rosewood veneered cabinets. I've had them for some 14 years now, yet they neither look nor sound dated.

Oxenholme, are these the beauties with the wheels - or are those the 104's?

I have a vintage pair of Kef Calindas - apparently the first speaker the designed with the assistance of a computer. They are perfect for the living room!

My favorite speakers are the Maggie 1.6QRS which I drive with about $20K of electronics. Great value for money and they go lower than you think. Some of the best mids and highs I have heard.

Also, I like the 3.6s which I will upgrade to soon for more bass and even clearer highs.

    :)

    Hi Lee,

I second that (or third it, I think there was another respondent who also uses 1.6's ?).

Superb value for money and real giant killers.

Overall an extremely well balanced package that I prefer over the other, often cranky speakers that I've owned ( Quads..yuck, Stax, ProAc, Acoustat, Martin Logan).

Gary, now you've got me interested!!!! Kef speakers with wheels? The 104's were a fair bit smaller - I had a pair before I got the 107's. The 107 is in two sections, a plain rectangular base with 2 linked ten inch bass drivers moving vertically, and a strange top half of a dalek with midrange and tweeter. Thankfully they fitted a smart grill over the dalek part. They go down to about 17Hz. When I tried to buy the 107's, Erricks, a Linn dealer, insisted that I tried some Linn Isobariks, but although their detail was incredible I found them tonally not to my liking.

The ultimate aim being Meridian 8000's, but it would be expensive as I would need a bigger house to put them in.

    Now tell me more about

Planer speakers in general - the Maggie 1.6's in particular. Stunning value, provided you have the space and power for them.

Yes, that's what I remember seeing, Aashton! I never got to audition them before they were sold... rather large with a poor WAF rating but someone told me that they were great sounding!

A very low WAF :sigh: but in those days maybe a little higher than the speakers I was using for the front channels (I used mine as surrounds in my HT setup) - initially the front were Acoustat Spectras (small diversionary story time :) ). I ordered the Acoustats without telling my beloved  then received a call one day informing me that they had arrived the dealer brought them along and we started puttig them together and setting them up - about an hour later all was done and dusted. I aksed him did he want a cup of tea and mentioned that Sue would be back from shopping soon - "does she know that you have bought these ?" he asked - when I told him not really, he got his coat and passed Sue as she was walking down the path(he was running :) ). For some reason she didn't really like the tall black columns that blocked out the light and obscured the plants :( Replaced the Acoustats with Acarian Alon IV's - a chunky looking speaker that only got a "they look big" comment untill the top hood was removed (they look like BIG Watts and Puppies if you have never seen them) when they strated to look "different".

The trials and triublations of speaker hunting :)

    Happy Boxing Day - Andrew
