    whodanny The Who ! THAT'S WHO !!

There is sublime slide playing on all of Martin Simpson's albums, I particularly like 2011's Purpose and Grace with a great version of "In The Pines".

Earl Hooker {Two Bugs and a Roach} , amazing player, could play perfectly articulate in standard tuning. Played the in between notes accurately too. John Lee's relative, but, plays nothing like John Lee. An incredible musician. Died way too young.

Sonny Landreth {Elemental Journey} , maybe the most revolutinary slide player alive. His fretting behind the slide is so unique. Amazing player. His instrumental album is my fave, but, he's cool behind John Hiatt too. Half his vocal songs are so so, but his solos are always jaw dropping.

My fave by far is Elmore James, anything he did i dig. His voice along with his attack and distorted f ed up tone, just awesome. He and James Brown do no wrong for me.

  22. I'd add Bonnie Raitt. She's not necessarily the fastest or best but I love her tone, what she chooses to play.

I can't belive i didn't think of Bonnie. I love throwing hear into guitar discussions. One of the best concerts i ever saw was a dual bill with her and Lyle Lovett. She is just awesome. Her tone and taste is just perfect. Such a great great player, to me. She really follows Lowell George and keeps him alive. She has stated this in interviews. Which is super cool. I love Bonnies playing so much excellent player. You know it's her when she plays.

I wish she'd do an instrumental record with her and a small combo. Especially her piano player, guy from New Orleans. At the show i saw he stopped time with his solo. Never had an experience like that.
