    Hello all,

My latest web article is a list of the ten best Three Stooges short subject films featuring Curly Howard. Here's the link to the article: List of the ten best Three Stooges films from the Curly years

I didn't make the list 1-10, as there's many that I could have put in there. I made it from 1934 to 1945, which are the years featured in a Three Stooges 2018 Time Life 13 disc box set. The set gave me the idea to make up the list. Here's the group:

    1. "Punch Drunks", 1934
    2. "Men In Black", 1934
    3. “Three Little Pigskins”, 1934
    4. “Hoi Polloi”, 1935
    5. “Three Little Beers”, 1935
    6. “Grips, Grunts and Groans”, 1937
7.“Violent Is The Word For Curly”, 1938
    8. “A Plumbing We Will Go”, 1940
    9. “An Ache In Every Stake”, 1941
    10. "Micro-Phonies", 1945

What would be on your list? There's several I left out like "Pop Goes the Easel"-1935, "Disorder in the Court"-1936, "Three Little Pirates"-1946, and many more. Yes, four on my list feature sports-boxing, golf, football, and wrestling.

one can get nearly all of the 3 Stooges shorts on a huge DVD box that is quite cheap and of excellent quality.

    Jason,

Unfortunately, I don't have METV, but that's great that they're running the Stooges on Saturday nights!

I like how in Dizzy Doctors The Stooges go to the Los Arms Hospital again, where Men In Black was set three years earlier.

One of my favorite Curly shorts is ‘Pop Goes The Easel’ for this scene alone:

It's too bad there's no BD box of the Stooges films. But there's no BD box of Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang/Little Rascals films, too.

The larger box has an extra 3-DVD set (not included in the smaller box) called "Rare Treasures From The Columbia Pictures Vault." It includes two Stooge feature films, "Rockin' In The Rockies" (1945) and "Have Rocket Will Travel" (1959) -- plus the solo Columbia comedy shorts of Shemp Howard, Joe Besser and Joe De Rita. As a bonus it also includes three vintage Columbia cartoons which feature caricatures of the Stooges.

Narrow it down to ten, and just the ones with Curly? Every time you ask me, I might have a different answer. Let's see...

    Dizzy Pilots
    Men In Black
    Half-Wits Holiday
    Micro-Phonies
    Pardon My Scotch
    Horses' Collars
    Idiots Deluxe
    Three Little Pirates
    An Ache In Every Stake
In The Sweet Pie And Pie

But there are so many great ones!

Last week I caught "Three Little Pigskins" notable for featuring a 23 year old Lucille Ball.

Interesting how "I Can Hardly Wait" was influenced by the 1928 Laurel and Hardy film "Leave 'Em Laughing". The Stooges film "An Ache In Every Stake" is
similar to L&H's "The Music Box" with both having the long, high stair cases. L&H are delivering the piano, and The Stooges are delivering ice.

I agree, Mark. It was tough to limit it to ten Curly short films. I was thinking about "Three Little Pirates" with the Maharaja routine. Interesting on YouTube to see Moe performing the routine in 1973 on The Mike Douglas Show, with Mike in the Curly role.

Lucy was under contract to Columbia Pictures when she made "Three Little Pigskins".

"A Pain In The Pullman" is a remake of a Thelma Todd short whose title escapes me.
