James Taylor also did "Day Tripper" on the LP "Flag". Some people think it is not so great, I think it is OK...in a fun sort of way.

How about the famous Harry Nillson and his "Beatle Medley" that originally attracted the Beatles to him. I think it was "You Can't Do That", but included about 10 other tunes.

Allan Holdsworth did a great version of Michelle on COME TOGETHER:
guitar tribute to The BEATLES. A couple of other goodies there too.

I've toyed with the idea of doing a comp tape/CD-r titled The Off-White Album, made up of cover versions. (That was before Phish covered the whole thing in one fell swoop!) Could never quite come up with a cover of every song, but close enough to get the point across. I could get this far with stuff in my collection:

    Back in the USSR--Billy Joel
    Dear Prudence--Siouxsie & the Banshees
    Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da--Marmalade
    Wild Honey Pie--Pixies
    While My Guitar...--Jeff Healey
Happiness Is a Warm Gun--World Party
    Martha My Dear--World Party
    Blackbird--CSN, Dionne Farris
    Piggies--Oingo Boingo
    Rocky Raccoon--Richie Havens
    Don't Pass Me By--Georgia Satellites
    I Will--Tim Curry
    Julia--Ramsey Lewis
    Birthday--Texas Chainsaw Orchestra (hilarious!! )
Yer Blues--Jeff Healey (or Dirty Mac, from Rock & Roll Circus)
    Mother Nature's Son--John Denver
    Everybody's Got Something to Hide...--Feelies
    Sexy Sadie--Paul Weller
    Helter Skelter--U2, Aerosmith, Pat Benatar
    Revolution--Thompson Twins
    Honey Pie--Tuck & Patti
    Savoy Truffle--They Might Be Giants
    Good Night--Linda Ronstadt

Do you mean this? Billy was kind enough to sign it for me a couple of years ago at the Calgary Folk Music Festival. His reved up version of Revolution is great.

Yes there is a Rutles song on the disc plus a Klaatu song "True Lilfe Hero".

It's included on Live Phish Vol. 13, part of the group's ongoing live album series. Phish cover an entire album on each of the latest volumes--others include Talking Heads' Remain in Light and The Who's Quadrophenia. They're quite reasonably priced for multi-disc sets.

Thanks, Jimbo. I'll check these out.

    Back to the original topic:

"Every Little Thing" by Yes is nice. Their "I'm Down" on the Yesyears box, oh well...

Believe it or not, it seems the most successful coverer (is that a word?) of the Beatles is Anne Murray, at least as far as the Hot 100 is concerned. She landed on the charts with "You Won't See Me" (#8), "Day Tripper" (#59), and "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You" (#64).

Some other notable Beatles covers (sorry if these have already been mentioned):

    Across the Universe--David Bowie
    I've Got a Feeling--Pearl Jam
    Help--the Damned
I Wanna Be Your Man--Suzi Quatro (did not change the gender!)
    I Saw Him Standing There--Tiffany:rolleyes:
    Tomorrow Never Knows--Phil Collins
    Sgt. Pepper--Jimi Hendrix
Here Comes the Sun--Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel (#10 UK hit)
It's All Too Much--The Church (great version!)

Aerosmith's "Come Together" deserves to be mentioned (again). It's Areosmith on the original post. ;) Great band, those Areos rock!

No one has mentioned Peter Sellers.

She Loves You - done in the style of a sadistic Nazi.

A Hard Day's Night - Peter S. pretending to be Laurence Olivier pretending to be Hamlet.

    Hilarious!!!!  :)

    Here's a couple that haven't been mention:

I'll Cry Instead (live)- Billy Joel (B side of An Innocent Man)
    A Hard Day's Night - Billy Joel
Day Tripper - Jimi Hendrix Experience
I Saw Her Standing There (live)- Elton John Band featuring John Lennon
I Should Have Known Better- Beach Boys
    Tell Me Why- Beach Boys
You've Got To Hide Your Love Away- Beach Boys
With A Little Help From My Friends- Beach Boys
In My Life- Bette Midler (from the movie 'For the Boys')
    Yes It Is- Don Henley
It's All Too Much- Steve Hillage
Happiness Is A Warm Gun- U2
    Stereophonics- Revolution

As for Live Phish 13, they actually don't cover the entire White Album. For some reason only the opening chords of "Birthday" are slowly played by the guitarist as they announce it's someone's birthday then they go right into Yer Blues.... and Goodnight is omitted altogether. But it is well worth it to hear the cover of Revolution 9. They hit all the major vocal lines (ie. "We are Standing Still, El Dorado, the Watusi, The Twist, etc.) and do a lot of the sound effects vocally. :D

I totally forgot about Pearl Jam. It took me about 2 years to track down the Japanese presssing of "Ten" back in the days before the Internet was in everyone's home. That is a great version.

How about the Big Daddy cd - Sgt. Peppers. A brilliant and hilarious complete Sgt. Peppers with each song done in different styles. You must hear it to really appreciate its genius:love:
