I wonder why the Hank Snow medley from this show was never included in the cd box: The singing ranger vol 2? Singing Ranger Vol.2 (4-CD) | Bear Family Records
Ordered a new box today...I'll announce once I receive it in hand. Getting real close to having my "mandatory" box list done. About 6 to go. (Anyone notice a recent spike in prices? What's up with that? )
Considering they've covered the Big D Jamboree and Louisiana Hayride, I wonder if BF will ever take the next step and do something relating to the Grand Ole Opry. A complete overview of the Opry's classic years would be an impossible undertaking, but maybe something like a set of the earliest or most historically significant recorded performances.
Giving my first spin to Roy Hogsed's Cocaine Blues. Great country swing and boogie, my only complaint being that Gene Dewez's accordion can be a little heavy-handed on some of the early cuts. It makes sense seeing as one-tenth of the songs Hogsed and his band recorded had "Polka" in their title, though thankfully none of those are included here. The opening cut knocks it out of the park. It's a head-bobber AND a toe-tapper.
What a great idea. The overall recording quality of the classic Opry performances is a major advantage. Although I suspect most people are used to the concept of having a multi-artist set of performances, I wouldn't mind seeing artist-focused comps featuring "the best" of their classic performances.
Yeah, I've a few Live at The Opry discs and they tend to sound pretty good. I'd be happy go through the tapes for them, take a few years...
Usually I'm not terribly interested in BF's limited-edition 10" LPs, but this one is more noteworthy because the material is unavailable elsewhere. First time this British big-band rock 'n' roll album has been available in 60 years. Rockin' With The Rockets (LP, 10inch, Ltd.) | Bear Family Records Anything here that's not on the box set?

Maybe Bear can do a John Jacob Niles box someday. I just found this rare record after looking for many years
From an LP recorded for RCA: John Jacob Niles - Bonnie Farday I got that record, bought at a 2nd hand recordstore.
