Great Dino sets. I grabbed the last two boxes from Ernie B’s right when the BF distribution fiasco was announced. Glad I did.
That is indeed a great disc and one that has become firmly entrenched in my annual rotation of Christmas music. I ordered it from Real Gone as soon as it was announced, and in so doing was lucky enough to score one of the copies with a booklet signed by Doris.
I've been meaning to get this box. But it's behind several other Bear Family boxes I need to get first.
I am envious that you got the autograph, but I did score a Johnny Mathis autograph, twice in fact. One for the RGM Complete Christmas Collection 1958-2010 and one for his stupendous Complete Album Collection by Sony Legacy last year with mini album replica's of all his Columbia albums. That one was numbered as well. A bit expensive to say the least, but well worth it with fantastic remastering at Sony Battery including on his iconic first Holiday album with Percy Faith, Merry Christmas.
Same here for the Mathis. However, I do wish they would've offered an autograph for a limited number of the Charley Pride Gospel collection 1CD.
I know BGO records has done a fine job with the Charley Pride back album catalogue on those double and quadruple CD's, but wouldn't it have been nice to see a Bear Family box set with everything in one glorious package?
There must be many unreleased songs, concerts in the archive that has not been released.Whole session from when Charley recorded his first album.
Since 2014, how many new country music artist-based box sets has Bear Family issued? (Not compilation sets like the radio box) I am aware of two, Roy Acuff and George Jones. And only one of those is officially available in North America.
This is what we use to call "A bummer man," although I am excited about the Lefty set and the upcoming box set update on Fats Domino.
The updates and upgrades are great. But not entirely new. I'd love to see more uncovered artists or more eras of artists already covered by other sets
Definitely. BGO have a few titles by other artists where they surprised fans and released some rarities, but their country & western titles don't seem to go beyond the albums. I'll make an exception for the Charley Pride releases, as the BGO discs are currently the only way to purchase most of these albums on CD. Would love to have a Bear Family box set focusing on Charley's 60s and 70s output. My parents were big fans of Charley and we saw him live. When possible, I still try to catch his live shows at the casinos and the predictability of his sets doesn't bother me either. Charley's voice still sends chills up my spine, what a great guy. My mom and I were big fans of him as well. I got to see him perform near the height of his fame around 1974 or 1975. I think Janie Fricke was his opening act. I remember when he and the equally great Charlie Rich were on the same country music special together and Rich said something like, " Woh, there's two Charlies' on the show tonight and I hope they can tell us apart." Mr. Pride said something like, "Oh, I think that they will be able to tell us apart during the show." Rich quickly replied, "Oh, your right. I forgot that we do spell our first names differently. It was probably scripted material, but it was very funny at the time.
Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner, The Chuck Wagon Gang, Tennessee Ernie Ford... (and I think I heard whispers about Faron Young and Bobby Bare)
Very exciting news! Would love to have a Faron Young box including his 60s and 70s output, possibly even his studio recordings into the 80s if it were possible. The last Hank Thompson 66-86 box set was very rewarding and I hope the same formula is used for the second Faron box. 'Drinking Champagne' from Faron's 1969 Mercury LP "I've Got Precious Memories"
