RWA release by George Jones.Version of this song is not on the Starday box: I am gonna get this from my dealer here in Norway soon.
Somehow, the Jones 10 inch LP looks like material intentionally left off the box. $30 by the time you get it. Pretty high price.
If so why is not these alternate takes mentioned in the book? Mistakes in the books have happened before. 2 or 3 songs have George Jones introducing them like this 10 inch lp in the box Maybe Mychael knows something about this. It is weekend:
I doubt that, as it would hurt Bear Family's own credibility. BF isn't making money from RWA releases or vice-versa.
I guess I am saying I really prefer CDs to 10 inch LPs, but that is the way the whole industry is moving, overpriced vinyl.

The title of the new George Jones set from Bear Family (if that's what you mean with "the box") is "The Complete Starday & Mercury Recordings", and that's what's discussed (and listed meticulously) in the accompanying book. It's not about live recordings, radio sessions or anything like that. It's certainly not "Everything George Jones ever recorded from 1954 to 1961".
I got a copy of this a couple days ago and have not had time to listen to much......but what I've heard I like. The sound is very acceptable and easy to enjoy. The book is great with info and label pics for every song in the box, over 300!! Layout and artwork is nice, easy to read and enjoy. As nice as any big BF boxset. Overall a great set and one that will take years to really dig through. So if you like 50s and 60s oddball releases this is for you. I will get the Texas and Florida boxes as soon as Mr. Billfold says its ok. Do they really plan on doing a box for each U.S. state?
I doubt it. Most states did not have centers of recording activity by independent labels doing this sort of music (or any music). You may notice that these three states were among the most populous in that era.
Alabama and Wisconsin are in the works. The BE Records boss recently sent me a health & fitness plan to make sure that I'm available & fit to work for at least 18 years. ;-)
This one just arrived. Piano Red's music might not have been the most varied (one of his producers recalled how they had to make sure he didn't recycle the same melody for multiple songs as he was used to doing back in his barrelhouse days), but it's even more vibrant than the bright red hue of the box set. Neat! A year ago I wouldn't have thought Wisconsin would have had enough quality minor-label rock 'n' roll for a box set... then I heard Rockin' in Wisconsin: The Cuca Records Story from Ace. It seems the newest musical trends were a little late to reach such far-flung regions, so everything is a year or two behind its time. Even the label's first national hit, The Fendermen's "Mule Skinner Blues", consisted of two guys hollering out an old Jimmie Rodgers song. Can't imagine that we should expect The Alaska Box or The Wyoming Box, but it'll be interesting to see which states they eventually cover. Widening the scope a little, I'd be over the moon if they made a Canada Box.
Hi Mychael, please suggest to Bear Family, a box set containing Faron Young's Mercury recordings . Richard looks great and has aged very well. After all of the contributions he has made to music and the countless artists he's showcased, it makes me happy to see Richard is still active.
Last night I finally got around to ordering Bear Family's first Jack Guthrie CD. Then I noticed someone was selling the third one for next to nothing so I ordered that. Then I bought the second one because it would strange only having the first and third volumes. He was a consistent enough artist to make everything he recorded worth owning, though.
