I love Trafagar, but To Whom It May Concern is an underrated record in my opinion. I love it almost as much.

Mr. Natural has really grown on me in recent years. I know it isn't everyone's favorite, but I really like 2 years On. All of them are great .. the weakest for me is Cucumber Castle.

In my opinion the above albums are made during a mostly unfocused period and the brothers were not always in harmony personally and professionally. The music is kind of bland, with a couple of great songs/singles only "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Run To Me." Mr. Natural was a step in the right direction, and after that I really enjoyed the music of the Bee Gees. I'm not really a fan out any of these albums, so I picked "A Kick In The Head Is Worth Eight In the Pants" which is not actually released, from this time period. :)

See and I was going to say, "Great thread idea because you've given a time period that I don't really enjoy!"

To each his own I guess!...

    Oh yes, Trafalgar...

Cucumber Castle. I think the best tracks are If I Only Had My Mind on Something Else and I Lay Down and Die, but it's all pretty good, with the unfortunate exception of Maurice's My Thing. At least he made up for it by producing Toast and Marmalade for Tea, which I assumed was a Bee Gees track until I found out otherwise ...

After that, The Greatest Man in the World off Trafalgar is easily my favourite track from the other five LPs.

I went with Cucumber Castle. Maybe partly because of nostalgic circumstances associated with that LP for me. Also, believe it or not, I like Maurice's song. I wish there was another song by him to break up the string of Barry's lead vocals a bit.

I like Trafalgar best, but I'm not an expert on this period for them. I tried listening to Mr. Natural recently and it just sounded like generic, almost Muzak Bee Gees. Then I tried 'To Whom" and it sounded like an actual group again and, what's more, they sounded like they were awake and trying.

My favorite is Mr. Natural, but I could have easily chosen Cucumber Castle (which I need on CD to complete my collection) or To Whom It May Concern:

I still have not warmed up to Trafalgar, but it seems to be a fan/forum favorite.

I love this era but cannot stand Trafalgar in the slightest. Well ok, Don't Wanna Live Inside Myself is great, but the rest is just soooooooooooo dreary.

Trafalgar for me. I once saw the MOFI audiophile gold cd in the early 90s, but as a then poor grad student I couldn't justify $30 for a cd that I already owned.

I loved that album back in the day, so many great songs. I didn't buy their next several albums... I had too many other musical priorities during my college years. If I had bought To Whom it May Concern at the time, I would have been disappointed. That's my least favorite of this period.

I think Life in a Tin Can is a very good collection, although it clocks-in short with just eight songs. If they'd included a couple of Kick in the Head tracks, it would have been a solid LP. I flesh it out with Wouldn't I Be Someone, Elisa and King & Country.
