I love this stuff, especially when the extended version goes 'way out there' compared to the regular single.

    Lindsey Buckingham — 'Go Insane'
It's Immaterial — 'Ed's Funky Diner' and 'Driving Away From Home'
    Red Box — 'For America'

And what's your favourite Frankie 'Two Tribes' mix?

Lots of them. There's a lot of Prince 12" singles where he and his band go into an extended jam. Very nice to hear when you're only familiar with the 7" and album versions.

Another longtime favorite 12" of mine is Holy ghost by the Bar-Kays. One of the baddest funk jams ever released.

Re: Frankie - the Annihilation mix is my preferred version of Two tribes. Lots of spacious sound effects and voice-overs that don't interrupt with the flow of the song. Another 12" mix that goes way beyond the limits of the single and album version.

I hardly have any 12-inch singles from the 80s, but I sure did like my "Careless Whisper".

Oh wait, you said "brash". It was pretty brash of Paul McCartney to release "Temporary Secretary" - not a favorite, though.

My favourite 12" ever is Soft Cell's 'Torch'.
I love Cindy Ecstacy's extended part. A great song made much better.

Oh...LOVE these!! There are great imports called "12" 80's" that are really good! I love the Duran Duran ones- they get way out there! "Wild Boys (Wilder Than Wild Boys)"!

Bowie (with Iggy) - "Dancing With The Big Boys". The extended 12" version was much better than the album version.

I try to snatch up 12" 80s comps on cd whenever I can. Fun stuff!

A personal fave is the Psychedelic Furs' "Heartbeat" 12". Big Country had some great 12" extended mixes too..."Wonderland" is a good start.

I hate them. I hate it when they mess up a good song, by adding things they shouldn't or straying from the original. a lot of the newer djs do this, whenever they remix a song, drives me crazy.

I love the "true to the original" 12" mixes I hear(by that I mean, I love it when they add maybe more beats, or more verses, or longer parts, that stay true to the song).

You dont know how many times, Ive gotten excited hearing some 80s band is re-releasing something, and added a "12" extended mix" of it, only to hear it, and be hugely disappointed w/it.:realmad:

The 12" single of The Firm's "Radioactive" rocks. The original single (the album cut) is practically useless to me.

my first 12" and still my fave is 'The Reflex (Dance Mix)' by Duran Duran (not to be confused with the 45 version which is the "Dance Mix-Edited"). Remixed and edited by Nile Rodgers...his first work with the band. It turns the album track on its head and then some. Fab!
