Right. "Kingdom Come" is the Tom Verlaine cover. My bad. ;)

But you did mean "Wildlife" is the song you like, right?

I think of it as one of the the best songs Al Green never did.

Yeah, "Teenage Wildlife" is a great song - arguably my favorite from the album.

Part of a story I've told before: when I sent Bowie a letter in 1990, I included song requests, and "TW" was one of them. When we chatted on the phone, he looked at the requests and laughed when he saw that one.

In 1995, he regularly played "TW" on tour, so I had the last laugh! :D

I don't know what a "deep cut" is, but my favourites that a newbie or casual fan might not know, if that fits the bill?..

    • Amlapura

    • Truth (Tricky)

    • Goodbye Mr Ed

    • I Can't Read (1997 remake)

    • Dead Against It

    • Fly

    • Baal's Hymn

    • An Occasional Dream (demo)

Very cool. It's one those tracks I've been 'hooked on'. On my record player it's no less of a hit than "Fashion" or "Ashed to Ashes".

Such killer Fripp guitar in "wildlife". I wonder if Bowie laughed because the groove is so much like Heroes. Awesome track and vocal.

Bowie made so many great songs for soundtracks that you could potentially make a compilation of them:
    Revolutionary Song
    Cat People
    The Myth
    When the Wind Blows
    Absolute Beginners
    That's Motivation
    Volare
    Underground
    Magic Dance
    As the World Falls Down
    Within You
    Real Cool World
    I Can't Read
    Nature Boy
    (She Can) Do That

    • Running Gun Blues: usually dismissed by Bowie fans, I feel like I'm the only one loving it, but that Moog is groovy.
    • The Bewlay Brothers: I can get why you'd get lost at the end, when you're making such an album.
    • Moonage Daydream (Arnold Corns): I love the way he sings it, and the weird rhythm it has. Definitely different from Ziggy, though.
    • Man in the Middle: I hope this one gets an official digital release someday.
    • Alternative Candidate: it could easily have replaced some other Diamond Dogs songs, IMO.
    • Win: such a shame it's only been played live once.
    • TVC15: that huge storm at 3:56 is probably one of my favourite musical moments, ever.
    • Subterraneans: I wish the tapes Bowie did for The Man Who Fell to Earth still exist, somewhere.
    • V-2 Schneider: that weird thing with the consonants gets me every time.
    • Red Sails: karmaman and his amazing RCA PDF helped me love this song. I couldn't listen to it on the EMI-1999 or Ryko. Thanks, man.
    • Teenage Wildlife: Bowie's reflection on 70's Bowie. Wild. Amazing lyrics, amazing feeling.
    • Criminal World: "I'd like to sound like the most random guy ever, but I can't help myself"
    • Time Will Crawl: I could listen to a whole Bowie-does-Neil-Young-with-some-horrible-1987-production album any day.
    • The Buddha of Suburbia (the album, not the song): I'd rank it above Heathen, but everyone keeps forgetting it. A shame.
    • Seven Years in Tibet: the first Bowie song I loved, and the only one which didn't get the Jungle treatment on Earthling.
    • Dead Man Walking (Acoustic): Earthling had some really nice songwriting ruined by 1997-dated production and style...
    • Lazarus: clever lyrics, but I got them too late.

This cut is so deep - Ken Scott can't remember it, no fans knew about it util the anniversary release of Ziggy and Bowie initially blocked its release!

Personally I wouldn't discount anything that has been on a compilation. Doing things like that would disqualify tracks like Red Sails (Golden Years compilation), It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City, Drowned Girl, When The Wind Blows (all three Platinum Collection) or Can't Help Thinking About Me (Nothing Has Changed compilation).

Five selections because I'm a huge fan and don't have all the time in the world:

I Can't Explain (Amazing Who-cover that sounds at least 5 years ahead of it's time).
Red Sails (hidden gem from an album that's full of those).
Candidate -alternative version from Ryko/EMI cd- (completely different than the album cut and a great song in it's own right).
    Blackout (crazy stream-of-unconsciousness).
Saviour Machine (sinister world-dominance plotting before he actually did just that with the Zigster).

Excellent taste. I believe I have the same bunch of gatefolds, 12" and 7" (matte and glossy) but play the cd instead. Now I'll have to unbox them again.

Lennon-esque acoustic guitar, piano, bass, drum. Minimalist genius. I think I prefer it to the 1969 version.

Ronson/Visconti big-time rockout, Bowie's lyrics are awesome and his vocals raize the roof.
