I left a gap between Court and the others as it’s effect at the time eclipses all the others.

It is also where I would place the McDonald & Giles album, if it qualified.

I find this a difficult one because I now think of King Crimson more in the context of a live, improvisatory band than as an album band. That's partly thanks to the huge amount of well-presented live material that has come out. Even though the band has made numerous stunning albums.

In the Court is my favorite. I also really like In the Wake.

If we're talking studio albums then yes, "Red" and "Larks" top the list. I love all of their first 7, but Court is definitely my least favorite. Never enjoyed Side 1 of that one much.

You should absolutely listen to Islands and Larks. Both are excellent.

My favorite is Discipline, followed by Red and then In the Court.

You two have got to be the only ones! I was really hopeful for THRaKaTTaK, but it felt so flat for me. It's not right to say it's "what an hour of Crimson improv would sound like" when all of the improvs are just based off one song. Totally agree with you about the ProjeKcts, though. Some really great music there.

Start to finish, I have to go with Discipline. Every song is a gem and the flow is perfect.

Red and The Power to Believe are not far behind, but both have a weak spot or two, although both have higher highs, IMO (Starless and The Power to Believe II are my 2 favorite KC songs).

Nothing else even comes close to those three for me.

Your favorite is also mine. I have the others, and they're great albums, but they are a different kettle of fish.

I have everything from 1969-1974 except the live set Earthbound. Try Islands next; take your time getting into it, it's quite a transition from the debut album. Larks' Tongues . . . is quite a transition from Islands, too.

    Enjoy!!
