Your favourite obvious filler songs?

The Monkees "Band 6"

(Fun and wacky and clearly "filler". I've read somewhere that they were attempting some sort of spin on the old Warner Brothers cartoon opening, but I can't really make it out?)

 

And while we're on The Monkees, might as well throw this one in as well ...

 

My very least favourite song of all time.

I always felt that this one sounded like they needed one more song to fill the album and came up with this one, which I've always loved ...

 

What can make a song an obvious filler?
- No single release
- Not very known in public apart from fans
- May not fit to the rest of an album in terms or lyrics or the music

Really like that song. Bad is my favorite album of MJ anyway.

 

The Doobie Bros. "Larry The Logger Two Step"

 

Yeah, but that's not just filler, it's a disgrace. We paid good money for that album way back in the 1960s - £1.10s in the UK, if my memory is correct and we didn't do it to hear Ginger Baker and the boys sloppily grinding out some "traditional" Cockney joke song. I'm still angry about it.

 

While I certainly regard it as filler, I still quite like it as a laugh. Without it, the album simply wouldn't be the same.

 

Warren Zevon - "Nighttime In The Switching Yard" from Excitable Boy.

A fun jam in an album of mostly excellent songwriter songs.

6 minutes and 44 seconds of ramshackled, messy alt-country.

 

Miami Two-Step on Miami by James Gang.

Absolutely love this piece of music, it brightens up my day for a minute & a half.

 

Considering its status in other threads on this board, I’m surprised no one has mentioned Bip Bop by Wings yet.

Not really recorded as filler, at the time...
but placed on the album as filler.

However, it doesn’t “fill” too much.

 

This one is just too cute. Plus their harmonies are pretty good.

But if you ever want to hear a really interesting take on this song, Dr. Hook used to close their shows with it too. (I love Dr. Hook, so no slam intended, but they were usually well in their cups by the end of a show... or sometimes even before they went on stage).

to me obvious filler. it's cheesy and a little pointless ... but i like something about it ... hard to explain really

 

My opinion is it's an all right song in its own write but it's the only retrograde track on an otherwise groundbreaking album. Sounds like a Rubber Soul outtake to me.

 

In regards to the OP, I'm voting for those miscellaneous little jams REM threw in on Reckoning between listed tracks. So groovy and fun.

 

Wait from The Beatles Rubber Soul was a left over from the Help! sessions that was resurrected to fill out Rubber Soul

 

Revolver does not contain filler.
