Surprisingly tough choice, but I went with Pleasure because of Grey Lagoons.

Manifesto. it has the early cutting-edge sound (Trash), loungey smooth tracks (Dance Away) and epic title track.

Interesting that people love the debut - sounds a bit amateurish to me. Still it has a couple of excellent songs especially Remake Remodel...if only the singles had been included.

Anyway have to go for Avalon - ethereal and quasi new age classic.

When you ask for favorite album, I think of LPs.

My favorite Roxy Music LPs is/was 1977 Greatest Hits - OOP. I love the linking of the songs, especially Mother Of Pearl to Song For Europe.

The first album will always be my favorite, but "Stranded" is a very close second, followed by "For Your Pleasure". I don't care much about anything after Siren.

Well...I feel like they are really a different band from the first albums to Avalon.
I would say try Siren and see if you like it, and then keep going backwards.

This is only slightly less challenging than the "favorite Roxy Music song" thread

Gotta go with SIREN. I love the world-weariness of it. Every track's a corker.
Then FOR YOUR PLEASURE. Then STRANDED. Then MANIFESTO (wildly underrated imo).
The rest I cherry pick from.

Avalon was my first Roxy Music album, and it is still my favorite. Siren and then Manifesto take the second and third spots.

"Flesh + Blood" and "Avalon" are my favourites. Voted "Flesh + Blood" to prevevent it from ending up last in this poll!

For Your Pleasure for the win! This was their most exciting, envelop pushing release, an album to get lost in. I enjoy all of Roxy Music's stuff, particularly their initial run up through Siren and would probably rank them thusly, though when it comes to the first five, they're all pretty close:

    For Your Pleasure
    Country Life
    Stranded
    Siren
    Roxy Music
    Avalon
    Manifesto
    Flesh + Blood

Same as Eno's choice ... Stranded

I like them all quite a bit, I just enjoy luxuriating in F&B the most.

I've said RM's debut, since someone played it me circa 1991... I'd been hearing Roxy since the mid 70s and was very young, beginning to appreciate the great music that was around then and about to come! Yes, I'd be happy to stick with their 1972 self-titled. It There Is Something always astounds me and I used to play it in a band once too (well, duo - we did backing tracks on Minidisc and I played the bass on that and the lead guitar 'live'!)

Been warming more to Siren these days and also Manifesto as well - I've liked them a lot over the years but they click even more now. I can say the same about For Your Pleasure too, because I used to think that the version of Bogus Man on Viva! was the better of the two - coming round to thinking that the studio cut is just as essential, in its own way.

Avalon is such a classy album and a wonderful recording (very far removed from the debut, of course - but then I don't concern myself too much with finding things that sound too close to each other... I like a vary things very often) I'd have that as my second pick. Then Stranded.... Alright - looks like I need to do a list.

    In descending order:
    Roxy Music
    Avalon
    Stranded
    Siren
    For Your Pleasure
    Country Life
    Manifesto
Viva! Roxy Music (Not listed above, I know - but I couldn't bypass it!)
    Flesh And Blood

I don't like putting Flesh And Blood last as it has some monumental (IMO) singles on it and a few other nice songs, but even though it's nicely produced, it sounds uneven to me these days...I used to like it a lot more, years ago and I suppose something has to go at the end.

There is. I'm voting for the first album, and now I'm going to re-register under a new identity and vote for it again.

Picked Avalon, as it was playing the first time I heard an LP 12, and it blew my mind!
