Great decade for Hollywood. Not an overabundance of great foreign films from the 70's (yes there are several, but not a huge list).

Anyway, I guess I'd pick these:

    Definitely:
    1) All The President's Men
    2) Apocalypse Now
    3) Jaws

    I guess:
    4) Alien
    5) Superman

One I loved in 1971, but has lost its appeal is Ken Russell's "The Devils".

The posters are what stood out for me. For most they actually commissioned an artist, cool

My favorite decade for cinema as well. In much the same way that the record labels were willing to nurture less commercial artists, the movie studios were releasing personal, striking films that weren’t necessarily box office guarantees.

    In no particular order:

PERFORMANCE- Donald Cammell and Nic Roeg

AGUIRRE: THE WRATH OF GOD- Werner Herzog

    APOCALYPSE NOW- Francis Ford Coppola

    THE CONFORMIST- Bernardo Bertolucci

    A CLOCKWORK ORANGE- Stanley Kubrick

    A few observations:
it’s nice to see APOCALYPSE NOW mentioned so often. At first considered an expensive, indulgent flop, over the years its risen in estimation and seen now as an expensive, indulgent, hypnotic film.

BARRY LYNDON is another film that is looked upon more fondly than upon release. It was impossible not to have a Kubrick film on the list, and I went with the obvious choice. BARRY LYNDON, however is much more than a triumph of cinematography. It bears the Kubrick stamp in every part of its creation.
