The year was 1964 and most of my purchases were 45's back then.

I didn't by Meet the Beatles. My parents gave it to me as a gift at Easter instead of Candy in an Easter Basket
I would have bought it if I hadn't gotten it as a gift.

All I can remember are 4 records. This is all I had for my early teens. A friend in the neighborhood collected records so I just relied on him for listening to music.

What I had in order of aquisition

Switched On Bach - Walter Carlos
Inna Gadda Da Vida - I. Ron Butterfly
    Abbey Road - The Beatles
    Aqualung - Jethro Tull

So far, you're the only one who has even come close to my era. We must be about the same age.
Anyway, all of mine were also early sixties, with these my first five as I can best remember now at 67 years old...
    (All stereo)
Frank Sinatra - Sinatra's Sinatra (first album I ever bought on my own)
Elvis - Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3
    Beach Boys - Surfin' USA
Beach Boys - Little Deuce Coupe
The Ventures - Ventures In Space

There have been a few others from that period, but these are the five that first came to mind,
mainly because I still listen to all of them....

Legal disclaimer: I gave up on Kiss in late 1978. Subject for different thread.

I wish I can say that my first five purchases were cool, but when I got my first turntable at the age of 11, these are the first things I bought:

    1. American Graffiti soundtrack
    2. Dick Clark's 20th Anniversary of Rock and Roll
    3. Chuck Berry's Golden Decade

This was 1973 and there was a serious revival of 50's rock and roll going on at the time.

    4. West Side Story ( film soundtrack)

The classic film had recently been shown on television for the first time and in addition to causing me and my friends to play "Jet's and Sharks" with real pocket knives, I was hooked on the music.

    5. Band on the Run- Paul McCartney and Wings

Okay, this was a real album. Still my favorite McCartney album post-Fab.

    2. Cream, Fresh Cream
    3. The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Are you Experienced?
    4. Santana, self-titled

Lucky for me, my older sis was into music early on, and had pretty great taste. She was a huge Beatles, Stones and Dylan fan. I remember sneaking into her room and listening to Meet the Beatles, Aftermath, Highway 61 and others long before I ever bought one of my own. I think the first album I actually purchased for myself was The Doors. Good times...
