Have you ever been listening to an artist - maybe one that you just discovered - and suddenly had the epiphany that said artist had the "perfect sound" for your tastes? Maybe this question is a longshot and this isn't something that happens to everyone, but I thought I'd ask.

An example for me would be when I first got into Rush. I was about 15 at the time and it seemed to me that Rush had everything I wanted in a band. They had great hard rock riffs, prog rock complexity, wailing vocals, geeky lyrics, all of which were what I was most into a the time. I don't think of Rush that way anymore, but my 15 year old self thought they were the coolest band ever.

Does anyone else have examples like this or is it just me?

Rush for me too. Got into them around 1977 (aged 5).

The Sonic Youth run of Murray St thru Rather Ripped is close to perfect for me (not their whole catalog, though)

The feeling I had in 1977 upon first listening to this album by a band I'd never heard of:

It happened to me when I listened to Siouxsie & the Banshees for the first time. I think it often happens when you’re a teenager.

For electric blues, Albert Collins' Frozen Alive provided one of those moments of perfection for me.

Thumbs for the Allman Bros! Not My Cross to Bear sold me on getting more music from them.

I don’t believe in anything that is ‘perfect’ but three groups that ignited my passion for music were Rush, The Police, and King Crimson.

Hundreds of artists are perfect enough in my book. Especially Simon and Garfunkel, Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Nirvana, Elliott Smith, The Beagles, Death Cab, Explisions in the Sky, Cat Power, vashti, Mazzy/Hope, Kamari Washington, Dorothy Ashby, SDRE.
