Hmm.. these lists all all rather looking the same (Rush, Zep, Crimson). Ok... I'm going to do two lists... one with people y'all know (which looks like all the rest, so is a rather boring IMO), and one with people you've probably never heard of: Here are the "you've heard of them": Vocals: Ann/Nancy Wilson (Heart), Robert Plant, Freddy Mercury, Lennon & McCartney (together, not apart) Guitars: Hendrix, Alex Lifeson, Pete Townshend, Al Di Meola Bass: Geddy Lee, Tony Levin, Stanley Clarke, John Entwistle Drums: Neil Peart (of course), John Bonham, Keith Moon Keyboards: Chick Corea, Tony Banks Ok... here's the "you might not have heard of them" list: Vocals: Lena Karlsson (Komeda), Bass: Graham Maby (Joe Jackson, Rebecca Pidgeon) Keyboards: Roger Manning (Jellyfish), Rupert Greenall (The Fixx)
After some thinking, Guitar: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ronnie Earl, Wes Montgomery, Tal Farlow, Django Reinhardt, Mike Bloomfield, Johnny Wintetr, Eric Johnson, Merle Travis, John McLaughlin, Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, Tommy Bolin, Duane Allman and Warren Haynes Bass: Charles Mingus, Paul Chambers, Jaco Pastorius, Willie Dixon, Tommy Shannon, Allen Woody and Rick Danko and Scott LaFaro Drums: Levon Helm, Buddy Rich, Ian Paice, Don Brewer, Billy Cobham, Art Blakey and Tony Williams. Keyboards: Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Bud Powell, Otis Spann, Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Garth Hudson, Jon Lord, Ken Hensley, Freddie Redd, Larry Young Vocals/Frontman: Jimmy Rushing, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Mahalia Jackson, Mark Farner, Glenn Hughes, Ronnie Van Zandt, Louis Jordan, Little Walter, JB Lenoir, Ronnie Hawkins and Dr. John Brass: Louis Armstrong, Booker Little, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Tina Brooks, King Curtis, Benny Bailey, Cannonball Adderley and Johnny Hodges. So much good music in the world. I look forward to what I may discover tomorrow.-ED
Very funny... so many folks here like the same guys like me. Do you hear classical stuff??? Well, I can hear heavy metal in the morning, and Debussy in the afternoon... depends to my mood. Yes, and I like Jazz also. But it seems the DCC folks like rock'n roll better
yeahyeah, hear we go. Guitarz,, David Gilmour(always has a perfect solo for each song) Robbie Robertson, Hendrix, Santana, Jimmie Page, Dave Davies Bass: Paul Mccartney, John Entwistle, Flea, Getty Lee, Peter Quaife Drums: Kieth Moon, Ringo Starr(best pop drummer), Bonnham Vocals! john Lennon, Marvin Gaye, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Stevie Wonder, Roy Orbison -Wes

I'm sure that I will forget someone that I love, but here goes... Vocals: Nat Cole, Mahalia Jackson, Elvis (not Costello), and Patsy Cline. Guitar: Robbie Robertson, Ty Tabor, Frank Zappa, and Martin Barre. Bass: Victor Wooten, Tony Levin, Geddy Lee, and Jon Camp. Drums: Ian Paice, Neil Peart, "Futureman", and Ed Cassidy (if nothing else, just for the facial expressions!) Keyboards/Piano: Nat Cole (Trio), Blossom Dearie, and Greg Hawkes. Other: Ian Anderson (flute), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Bela Fleck (Banjo). Lots of others that I like, but that is the "short" list. Of course, if we are talking about a group of musicians that I would like to hear play TOGETHER, well that would be a whole different list! Tony
A simple response: The entire second generation line up of Lynyrd Skynyrd which means Bob Burns was already replaced with Artimus Pyle. I think a good band feeds off of each other. On the other hand, Clapton was great wherever he was..... By the way, I love classical music, too... but mostly from the 18th & 19th century composers. Handel. Hayden. Beethoven. Wonder if DCC ever did classical music?
You claim to be a prog snob, but the names "Holdsworth" and "Hackett" are egregiously missing from your list!
