Oops - edit... I see you did credit FOR5 as well. One too many late nights for me, I think.

Not numbered - apart from the decade groups, as I'd find it difficult... but for me, these sum up each period quite reasonably:

    50s

Frank Sinatra - Songs For Swingin' Lovers
Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out
    John Coltrane - Blue Train
    Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue

    60s

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
    The Beatles - Rubber Soul
    Cream - Disraeli Gears
The Who - The Who Sell Out
Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band - Safe As Milk

    70s

The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
James Taylor - Sweet Baby James
    Genesis - Trespass
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
    Deep Purple - Machine Head

    80s

    Ultravox - Vienna
    Duran Duran - Rio
Madness - The Rise And Fall
    The La's - The La's
    Dire Straits - Making Movies

    90s

    Supergrass - I Should Coco
    Pearl Jam - Ten
    Tom Petty - Wild Flowers
    U2 - Zooropa
    Paul Weller - Stanley Road

    00s+

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say, That's What I'm Not
Bob Dylan - Love And Theft
Paul McCartney - Chaos And Creation In The Back Yard
    White Stripes - De Stijl
Gaz Coombes - Here Come The Bombs

60s-90s, I could easily do 20 apiece though (don't ask for it, though please... I'd end up not sleeping for days! ;))

Funny, I was just listening to People's Instinctive Travels a couple hours ago and was thinking about how most people consider Low End and Midnight their best. But their debut is just so good, I'm glad to see it on your list.
...and the addition of your number five!

Yeah I feel the vibe of their debut is more fun & smoother than Midnigt Marauders & LET. Plus the album cover is wicked.

Nice picks, I like the way those two 80s picks led almost directly into Luna in the 90s. If you'd only picked something from Galaxie 500 in the 80s too, maybe On Fire, then you could've had almost the whole band :)

Anyway, some good ones in there, not just those 3.
