This December as an ersatz "Christmas present" to myself, I decided to finally splurge and buy all five Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVD sets.

I've had a blast watching and re-watching the material since: I find these cartoons even more entertaining now than I did as a kid. Whether or not their creators meant them as such, these films were works of art, and still hold up excellently today.

So, what are your top five favorite cartoons of the studio's output? Mine are:

    * Rhapsody Rabbit (1946)
    * Dough Ray Me-ow (1948): "Breathe, stupid, breathe! You forgot to breathe again!"
    * High Note (1960): An old favorite, even though I haven't seen it in a while: I always liked the anthropomorphism of notes as they arranged themselves in the form of the "Blue Danube."
    * A Bear for Punishment (1951), starring the Three Bears: The scene where an oversize "Junyer" tries to shave his father with a jagged, broken blade is a riot!
    * Show Biz Bugs (1957): The interplay of the "rivalry" between Bugs and Daffy here is perfect.

That's another of my all time faves!:righton:

I love what Junyer says after he finally manages to give his father a shave.

"Duh, Ma, Pa won't talk to me... I nudged him and nudged him. He's awfully still..."

Stan Freberg's voicework as "Junyer Bear" in that cartoon is nothing short of brilliant!

Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs (1943) – controversial, but brilliant.
Plane Daffy (1944) – everything that makes 40s cartoons great – including Hitler!
Rabbit of Seville (1951) – perfect timing, rapid-fire gags, Music Appreciation 101.
Crowing Pains (1947) – Foggy, Henery, Dawg & Sylvester in broad slapstick.
Kitty Kornered (1946) – another rubbery wild ride by Bob Clampett.

Heh, that's part of the challenge! Unfortunately, a "top 500 cartoons" thread would take up too much space... ;)

I don't have the titles handy, but:

The one where Bugs gets blasted into space, and Marvin is on that two dimensional landscape.

    Inky and the Minah Bird

    The Rabbit of Seville

    Odor-able Kitty

The one where Wile E. Coyote moves in and tries to match wits with Bugs

Duck Amuck! Why? Because of the SUPER SILLY Things that happen to Daffy..I nearly split my sides laughing SO HARD!! Especially when he Bangs on A Anvil which turns into a Bomb! THAT'S HILARIOUS!! A REAL RIOT!! Others is a similar Cartoon where Bugs is the unwitting victim,The "Marrage Of Figaro" Parody and the two that feature Bugs and -COULD IT BE?-A TALKING WILE E. COYOTE!! My favorite part of that cartoon is when Bugs erases and redraws Daffy as that freakish creature on all fours, Daffy then commenting he "doesn't feel quite like himself" gets a good look in the mirror, and shouts "YOU KNOW BETTER THAN THAT!!!":biglaugh:

Actually, there were *four* WB shorts featuring Bugs and a talking Wile E.:

    Operation: Rabbit (1952)
    To Hare Is Human (1956)
    Rabbit's Feat (1960)
    Compressed Hare (1961)

There was also Hare-Breadth Hurry (1963), which had Bugs "filling in" for the Road Runner; Wile E. is silent in that one as he is in normal Road Runner cartoons.

When I was a teenager, back in 1986-87, I used to babysit these two boys and we'd watch DA religiously. The part that always made us hit the floor howling was when Daffy says, "Alright, let's get this picture started," iris fade, black with the words "THE END," with Daffy screaming "NOOO!! NOOOO!!" and pushing the "THE END" backdrop out of the way! Twenty years later, it STILL makes me howl!

MY five? Off the top of my head:

    Gorilla My Dreams
    Easter Yeggs
    Boobs in the Woods
    Hillbilly Hare
    Crowing Pains

HUGE fan of Robert McKimson here.
