I'm reading the Jerry Nolan biography 'Stranded in the Jungle' and all through the book there are things mentioned...various gigs, TV appearances, short-lived bands , obscure singles etc...all sorts of stuff that in the past I could have only thought, 'hmm, wonder what that was like'. Now I just go to YouTube and it's all there.

Not an earthshaking observation obviously. Just something I was thinking about because YouTube's been around long enough you can take it for granted...but it really is pretty incredible what you can find on there.

I heard that Youtube is the #1 site on the internet. As in #1 in the whole entire world.

Google also stores your data that it keeps as its server property, and sends you ads based on what you watch.

    Orwellian.

    Woohoo!

I can spend hours (and probably days) being entertained by youtube alone. One category of videos I enjoy watching is "people are awesome". Here is one example:

Yes, I understand the some video may be doctored, but much of it isn't (IMO).

It occurs to me that being able to find the gigs written about in the book is probably not coincidental. The ones the author writes about in detail are obviously ones he's seen, and chances are pretty good he saw them on YouTube. Still amazing though and I've seen some great stuff I'd never have though to look up.

Also there's a single Nolan produced for a Swedish band in 1982.. A band called Pilsner that as far as I can tell never did anything else. It's on there. and really good.,

That was (not so) stealth political commentary.

You Tube had some Elton John stuff up from the current tour. Glad I saw it. Made me decide NOT to go. Outside of having to pay a "legal" scalper", he watered down his set list! WTF - you pull Love Lies Bleeding to open and do Bennie And The Jets instead? Thanks, I'll chance going to see Kansas in Mobile for 2/12 hours for Point Of No Return.

To think, for years I avoided capturing the audio, especially if I could find just about everything I want to purchase, because it felt like Napsterizing my collection. And now...I'm not even gonna finish my thought. :ignore:

It is a great site, mostly due to the creative, energetic, dedicated users who post material I would have never seen elsewhere.
