It does say "shown in 4:3 full frame presentation" and the cover image doesn't say "Tony Palmer's film of" - both of which are promising.

I have Amazon on my Bluray player. I wonder if they'll stream it? The copy I have was recorded from TCM.

I'm pretty sure 200 Motels was intended to be shown at 1.66.

I recently got "High Heels" as an On-Demand DVD-R......... and, I was impressed!
It was better my old VHS copy, that's for sure....
Here's hoping I can say the same for this!!
And, who knows............. maybe Gail is timing that NEW recording of "200 Motels" to coincide with THIS............. maybe.

I got my DVD and it's what's to be expected. Hey, at least it's available for those who want it until presumably, The Zappa Family puts out their version, or Frank's Honker home Video "version," or both. No booklet, nice disc graphics, nice cover sheet.

But the old DVD took the 1.33:1 image and stretched it to make it look like 1.66:1, they didn't actually use a complete 1.66:1 image. If I wanted a stretched image, I can do that easily with a click of my TV remote.

Are these burned DVD-Rs single layer DVD5 format or dual layer?

This one is a single layer DVD-5.

Gail has no rights to either the movie or the soundtrack album. Any decision to render this OOP would be strictly MGM's.

Still... why discontinue something you only make when someone ORDERS it??

    EDIT:
Well, I see it's back in stock!
    ............ never mind.

I've read that the audio is in fake stereo from mono.
Also that Mr. Bikels "Ladies & Gentlemen..." line is strangely absent.
    Can anyone confirm this?

If it is the case then it's still not a definitive version.
I'm pretty sure the TV rip I have has the line and is in true mono.

The old MGM laser disc did not look too bad at all.

ZFT will never have the rights to issue this. They may think that they do for a few minutes... But will lose their ass if they try anything with this MGM film.
