Zardoz,,,what a loony confused "classic stinker", that was! If every negative and print of the thing was lost, it would not be any tragedy. Unfortunately, I have a VHS video of it somewhere...

    Hey, I love that movie!

At least they took some chances and did something original, with a decent plot, even if it was confusing.

I had a hard time with it the first few times I watched it, but persisted and finally really "Got it", after about 4 viewings.

To me its a classic now, along the lines of "Clockwork orange".

Sure some of it is dated and laughable, but I think a good part of it was done intentionally for humorous effect to take away from the deadly seriousness of the overall story.

Its a lot of gloom and doom and confusion, but im quite certain they realized when they made it, how silly a lot of it seems.

I mean I look at is as "fun" now, and realize it was tongue in cheek partially.

I don't see any reason why not. There is a remake of Red Dawn about to be released.

I fell pretty much the same. I don't think it's as great as you say but I would rather watch an interesting movie that misses the mark then some boring by the numbers movie.

I wonder if they also came with 'dry tot' incontintence liners. I 'have heard' of those...that have a nappy fetish. A James Bond mincing as a male Barbarella, pe-empting a Borat.

  11. Oh I don't know I enjoy this mixture of silly and serious. It was ambitious given the budget, etc.

It's certainly no worse than Boormann's over the top classic "Excalibur".

I think you probably missed the entire point of the movie if you feel that way about it but then again you have it on VHS so you must have been loony enough to enjoy it for at least a couple of minutes.

What's not to like? Wizard of Oz reference, big red diapers, guns, a talking stone head, people doing silly things with their hands as if they have psychic powers....

James Bond with a pony tail...

    Yeah agree.

But ..I think the hirsute macho man
    bulging diapers
    the gun is good
puts of a lot of folk, pity.:)

A thread could be started for all the silly outfits worn Sci-Fi flicks. It would be endless.

    Zardoz was cool.

I heard they're gonna do the remake with some of today's hottest R&B stars,
    and call it The Zard.

YES!, at least it took some chances, with some heavy Sci-fi type subjects, and didnt care if it was "easy", or "likable". It did what it set out to do.

Create a world that was upside down and didnt make sense. I read somewhere that many elements in the movie were intentionally over the top, not only to reduce how serious the actual story was, but to help viewers really believe they were no longer in the same "world", as if things were totally bonkers.:D

Love Zardoz. Back in the 70s, Zardoz on TV provided more female flesh than any other movie I had seen up to then!

    A tad earlier...
There was Paula Prentiss's nude stripper scene
in What's New Pussycat, then later Catch 22.

The non pc 70s were a bit of eyeful at the time.

I got a copy of Zardoz on DVD when they made a limited run some years back. It may be daft but I like it. I cannot imagine anybody having the gaul to remake it....but as somebody mentioned Red Dawn got made over.... :shake:
