I just got "The Very best Of ZZ Top: Rancho Texicano", and to reinforce the issue, it has the ORIGINAL MIXES!!!

I thought Inglot did it, but Ludwig did the honore, and the set sound excellent!

I asked Billy Gibbons once if they did any re-recording for the 6-Pack and he said NO!
That being true, it contains different vocals, guitar licks and edits on certain songs.
So they must be from the original tapes?

At a very minimum, that's remixed. Maybe they're from original multis.

I don't know what tool they used to remix "La Grange" but the sound of those drums is dramatically different from the LP. Not even close. And like I said earlier, the vocal intro is much clearer... well, that could be the mix. But those drums just sound too different. I wonder if Steve might know what was done to the drums, if they really weren't re-recorded, to make them sound so different. It doesn't sound like simple reverb.

Digitally re-mixed and "smashed" with digital compression. Oh!, and digital reverb thrown in too! Blech!

Digital "triggers". God, I hate that sound!
