In the book 'The Great Illustrated British Rolling Stones Discography 1963-2013' by Julian Hardiman & Christoph Maus, page 156, you can see the 1972 UK Promo 7" Tumbling Dice.

I have never seen other pictures of this rare item...until now. Just recently I've been in contact with the high-end Stones collector known as TaurocTony and he says it's so rare that no one in the know dares to guess on a fair and realistic asking price on this item.

TaurocTonys copy of the 7" is not the one illustrated in the book.

The holy grail Of UK 7" Stones records?

The A-side is a unique mono mix. Not available anywhere else.

  3. Is it ‘just’ a test pressing with the label glued on?

You're talking about the US promo 7". This is the UK promo 7".

Not a test pressing, it was meant for a few select UK radio stations only.

Based on research made by the high-end Stones collector TaurocTony, half a dozen, at the max.

  8. Looking at TaurocTonys copy it appears it's a label pasted over a test pressing. While not common test pressings have been used as promo copies before, usually to get the song 'out there' to select radio stations before promo copies are made.

The copy your friend has actually looks exactly like the one in the book.
Look closely, the tiny dot on the right (under the tongue logo) and the handwritten text under the dice seems to be equal.

Have to correct my self, the little dot is on a slightly different place, but still very similar. And the handwriting still looks (almost) equal.

This sounds like a good RSD release

More likely to be released on the RSTG label.

Are there differences in the promo/commercial mono 45 mix and this particular
rare promo 45 mix? If there are differences, can someone divulge what they are?
    Thanks!

  15. Likewise would be great if we knew the matrix info.

Well I'm left speechless so I can't tell you.

  20. How are you defining 7”? Stock pressings, promos, test pressings, acetates?

I have this promo of the mono/stereo "Tumbling Dice" The Rolling Stones - Tumbling Dice , but I assumed the mono mix was just a "fold-down" of the stereo mix, like hundreds of other promos.

All official releases, stocks & promos.

  23. Well this promo looks to be a stock label affixed to a test pressing.

    "MONO for RADIO".

This 1972 UK 7" was born to be a promo record.

  25. Then why in this pic is it clearly a stock label affixed over a white label?
