I know TGBAS contains remixes, but which Left Banke CDs are considered "definitive"???

By definitive do you mean the best sounding? I prefer the sound on TGBAS.

The only song on TGBAS that sounds bad is Walk Away, Renee. The remix must be to blame. The single mix of that song can be found on some comps.

Which comps do you mean. I haven't found any comp on cd. The single mix must have a running time of 2:38 according Pop Annual.

I have this compilation. I bought it used a few years ago since it had the original mix of Don't Walk Away, Renee and got good reviews here. Plus it had a couple more songs I didn't have. Great track selection as well.

Contrary to the forum consensus, I prefer the Sundazed CD which contain the original mixes without much tinkering. I don't know the background about the clipped intro notes or the midrange-heavy eq, but I doubt that Bob Irwin would have introoduced those qualities in the mastering, so I assume it is that way on the source tape.

One thing I can tell you is I enjoy The Left Banke Too much better in its original running order.

I beg to differ...no way the original tapes sounded that bad...it's all in the mastering of those 2 sad CDs...just terrible! I was crestfallen after waiting so long for them to show up on CD back then.

DCW been a-boogeyin' since I ditched the stroller.

They do, and it's a shame, because the liners and packaging are Sundazed-licious. You have to own "There's Gonna Be A Storm" and the two Sundazed re-issues, but don't bother with the actual Sundazed CD's. I'm just being honest.

Storm works for me and others I already had. I just cannot believe how bad the Sundazed CDs are! I was shocked!

Me, too. I'm a Sundazed fan. I have a lot of their stuff. Those Left Banke re-issues are anomalously awful. By contrast, "There's Gonna Be A Storm" is practically a sacred object.

Maybe you should ask Bob, like I did. He says the Sundazed CDs sound like the tapes, for better or worse.

I do not have to ask Bob my friend...my ears tell me enough and I do not like what I heard on those 2 CDs...It's nothing personal against Bob...I own almost all of his CD catalog since his first Knickerbockers CD...I'm sure you can understand that...maybe Bob must have received some pretty bad dubs?
