Wasn't David Zinman the conductor of the Baltimore Symphony earlier in his conducting career?

The combination. Apollo wasn't main repertoire in those days but Mravinsky occasionally conducted 20th century works such as Bartok. However most of his recordings for Melodiya are not sonic marvels to put it mildly.

Now enjoying the slow movements from the first 5 Mozart Piano Concertos for some stress relief.

Music therapists actually use the slow movements from the Mozart concerti to reduce stress in their patients.

Over in the hardware forum, a discussion is raging on the premise, paraphrasing, that the original poster is irritated with audio gear reviewers for basing their discussions on "obscure classical music" instead of "popular music everybody knows."

So, does the guy have a point? Classical music is certainly a minority interest. Does it actually count as "obscure" in some objective sense?

No. he does not have a point. If one uses themselves as a reference one can make any claim.

If I want to listen to R&R, a rack system will do. I don't need to have the sound systems I have, period.

This is conceivably one of the best versions of the Brandenburg Concertos out there in spite of its age ...
