Wintersongs, but for no particular reason other than an introduction. If it's not one of yours then I'd rather try one of them. Can you recommend one?

Nectar. Wintersongs is very good too. Buy direct, they're self-produced:

Actually she has a better singing voice than many others in her generation.

I am an active participant in the various Ella threads on this forum. Her's was the first female voice with which I became familiar, starting at age 4, and my judgment of vocal pitch (in particular) was probably shaped by that.

I have one of the Dawn Upshaw albums, and I enjoy it, but not as much as Joan Morris who, with her husband William Bolcom, really re-conceived American popular songs as lieder. Her album duet album with Max Morath is a particular favorite.

I recall Blossom Dearie from some of the Ban Bagley albums, but I don't really know her that well.

I was privileged to see Julie Andrews in "My Fair Lady" on Broadway. My critical assessment is limited as I was 5 years old at the time. Still, I have greater admiration for Barbara Cook, who had to deliver Leonard Bernstein's "Glitter and Be Gay" eight times a week. Fortunately (?) for her, the original production of "Candide" was a flop.

For me this is the most beautiful (female) voice of my (post-punk) generation: that of Liz Frazer, singer of the Cocteau Twins and here involved in a 4AD compilation project, called This Mortal Coil. I know I'm among classicists here, but I know for sure you wil love this song and her voice, for your sake especially drowned in violins. Enjoy (I hope, however, it's raining or you will have at least cloudy weather where you are :) )

I kinda want to get the Murray Perahia- The First 40 Years set from Amazon since it's only $55. Seems like too good of a deal to pass up.

The delayed shipping makes me wonder if they will get any more copies in.

That's not so much my concern. I hate ordering things that "might" be available, as I get all excited and if it doesn't ship, I'm upset. But of course, that's just me...

I was born and raised in Jersey City, and out here it's the opposite, and I love it. Peaceful quiet living in the country. :pineapple:

Are those actually played on the vihuela and lute? Or are the work of guitarists?

I don't think the guitar in modern form existed in the 1500's-1600's...They are played on Vihuela only on the first CD..Lute only on the 2nd cd.
