I didn't see any Alien posts here (I have had a few cocktails here :D, so maybe I did miss them).

Alien is now 35 years old, can you believe it? It's one of the first movies I saw on VHS, ever.

I've always liked this movie for so many reason, for one it's horror so convincing you almost forget it's in a sci-fi setting.

I like Alien and think that it holds up pretty well. In particular the visual sets are just what I think or imagine a working space ship would look like. I just watched it again recently and had forgotten how awesome the actual Alien looked. Creepy.

Gotcha, thanks. I do remember reading the Prometheus thread and I may follow my recent viewing of Alien with it.

One thing that I think made the film unique is a lot of the cast are more middle age, which made it more believable. If Alien came out today, it'd probably be a bunch of twenty somethings in the cast.

Brilliant movie that sacred the ****s out of me when I first saw it in London during it's initial release week.

If you love this movie see it in a theatre if it ever comes around. Stunning art direction and design typical of Ridley. Giger's alien is so beautifully weird and creepy. Love his work.

I saw it when it opened too and it's one of the best nights at a theatre for me ever. It had me from the opening scene.

Wonderful movie, a classic all round, kudos to Mr O'Bannon and my homeboy Sir Ridley. (I almost ran out of the cinema during the chest scene!)

Never knew this tho :) -

It scared me when I was a kid and saw it on VHS at home, it scared me to death and made me jump of the coach several times. The same happened as I grew up.
With the 2010 Blu ray editions (on which some movies looked better than others, more care and attention were paid to Alien and Aliens) I felt exactely the same, and I was 36.
Now, being 40 I watch it a couples of nights ago and it must be me that I haven't matured and grown up, but Alien still freaks me out.

My first viewing of it was at my local Drive-In theater when it premiered. Since then I've seen it at a regular theater, on HBO, on VHS, on DVD and Blu-ray. It has pleasantly scared me each and every time I've seen it.

Brilliant movie, it doesn't fit the strict category of horror for me, more like science fiction with some elements of horror.

I've seen it twice on the big screen, though unfortunately not when it originally came out (I was too young). Best way to see it, for sure.
